Nope, leave it in D. Find an empty country road. Floor it from a stop until you reach 60 and then slow back down to a stop easy. Repeat 4 more times. The drive it around to let it cool off. It got rid of my moderate shudder when taking off moderately from a stop around town.

I often drive my car fairly hard, the thing loves to go, the motor is very responsive and I have no problem with the DCT. We just drove down to Myrtle Beach and back and the car was a joy. We've now had the car over 18 months and I still get worked up over it.

I wonder if some of the issues people have with the DCT are because it doesn't sound and feel like a traditional automatic and it thus doesn't meet expectations based on traditional automatics. I think of it as a stick shift with a little man inside who works the clutch and gear shift. Thinking of it like that (and having lots of experience with stick shifts) I find the various noises and vibrations the DCT sometimes make completely understandable.

I always say that I have had no issues with my DCT.... yet. But I am used to driving a manual, so like you said, maybe it's possible people with DCT complaints have never driving a manual? I understand it should not be grinding into gears, which mine doesn't, but yeah, some vibrations, and a little lag/stutter in first gear right when the clutch bites, all feel normal to me.

I had a Mustang with a short throw on it, and I had removed the inner rubber boot around the shifter when I installed it. You could hear that thing make whining noises in every gear.

I drove manuals for years, there is little comparison with the DCT. So there goes your theories.

The point of the DCT having a mind of its own means it feels like it is out of sync with the rest of the car, shift points, gear selection and smoothness is not there. Car almost feels like it does not like low RPM idle and launch from that point to 3rd gear.

I've driven manuals since the first car I drove, a 1962 Chevy Biscayne. In 1965. So I can appeal to authority too. And I assert there is a much in common in feel and sound between a DCT and a standard shift, like the little chattering when going slowly up garage ramps, sounds and feels traditional autos don't have.

I think we're talking about different reasons for disliking the trans and I think you're observations don't negate mine, they're compatible. However I find the DCT as responsive as recent traditional automatics I owned; a 5 speed auto that was in my 2005 CTS and a 6 speed of my 2007 Edge. I like the DCT.
