hey all. So i finally gave it a second try and it worked but not as well as I'd hoped. I had to order some more vinyl after ruining one of the stripes. THis time i carefully read the instructions and followed them. I did the hood and some of the back so far. It is MUCH HARDER than i expected. I thought it would be easy because I tinted my tail lights using vinyl and did a bunch of other vinyl work around the car. Anyways here is the problem: this particular vinyl is extremely thin and if it wrinkles or folds - at all - it's permanent. The Lamin-x tint I used for my tail lights seems like it's 5-10x thicker - I couldn't fold or wrinkle it if I tried!
Anyways after messing up for of the rally stripe vinyl, I finally got some on. At a distance of 15 feet it looks good but as you get closer there are a ton of bubbles. I'm worried the vinyl is so think that trying to fix the bubbles is pointless. It looks so good and so bad all at the same time...

its really frustrating. the materials cost me around $80. The cheapest quote I can find to have someone install it is $400. That's why I figured I'd give it a shot myself first. I"m going to finish the job, even though I know its far from perfect.

Then i'll probly end up taking it off... maybe I should have gone the plasti-dip route?

sigh

I would post a picture but can't find my Iphone cord

QFT. Not even the sports car ST's should have stripes.

I did my stripes by myself. It was pretty easy to do. I used some Oracal 651. I made all my own cuts from a 24" wide roll. When I did the install, I kept a spay bottle handy. I added a few drops of liquid hand soap. I sprayed the surface first, then the back side of the vinyl as I removed the paper. You can spray as much as you like, it doesn't affect the final outcome at all. The soapy water allows the vinyl to be positioned where ever you want it. I then used a credit card to smooth out any air bubbles. I also kept the vinyl surface wet to prevent any scratching. I didn't have to throw any pieces away because of mistakes.

I did the same installation process as you - except for the mistakes part. I kept everything real wet. On the rear of the sedan where the paint ends, I had a lot of trouble with that piece because when I would tack one side down with the squeegee, the other side would move and fold. The contours on there make the vinyl fold and move.

Could it be the quality of the vinyl - as I suspect?

this was the item

I didn't purchase the sure glide fluid...
