I recently bought a new 2012 ford focus sel and since i got the car the transmission has been studdering and i only get 400 kms to a full tank and i drive mostly high way and i have 4000kms on the car now. Is it normal that i only get 400kms to a full tank of gas? i took it to the dealer and they said it normal for this car? does anyone else have this bad mileage too? and they also seem like they don't want to do anything about my bad studdering/ noise when taking off. What should i do? Thanks in advance

Have you brought the car in for service to a dealership? There is a transmission software update that they should have installed and then "initialized" with a special drive sequence.

When I first purchased my 2012 SEL I had similar issues. I was only getting about 450 kms per tank, but that was because I think the engine was still breaking in. Also, I got it in October so the winter weather didn't help with all the warming up and slow driving etc.

I am now getting about 485-495 kms per tank and I do about 95% city driving.

I only notice the transmission shuddering after driving for long periods on the highway (e.g. I recently came back from driving down the I-5 towards Seattle and I noticed when I got onto the city roads the shuddering was a bit more noticable, perhaps it's because of the adaptive strategy that Ford implemented, but I've also been told this adaptive strategy only occurs when the battery is disconnected and the car has to re-learn you driving style).

Lastly, what size are your tires? I'm currently on 15" snow tires and I'm getting that kind of mileage. When I switch back to my stock 17" ones I'm sure my mileage will worsen a bit.

Hope that helps.

I'm at that point.

Without the $2500 incentive there are better cars at the focus price point. The DCT works great on a test drive, or if you get on a highway and maintain a constant speed, but once a few miles has gone by or in varied driving it turns to crap. It's like a drunk monkey is shifting.

Serves me right for buying American. After owning over a dozen cars and driving hundreds I should have known better.

Give your car a good workout.

Try a few 0-60 runs with your foot planted firmly to the floor and see if that doesn't improve the clutch engagement.

Yesterday I was turning to go to an on ramp to get on the highway when I lost all transmission and it sounded like it was in neutral and when it kicked in it shaked violently and made the same noise.

2 weeks ago I took them for a drive to listen for the noise and studdering and after a little bit of driving they heard the noise, and then went on to say it was the strut and that they would order it in and it should only take a couple days. 2 weeks later they called and said it was in and book an appointment for today. I told them about what happen the day before and said they would have some test drive it. 5 hours later I come to pick up the car and find out it took them 2 weeks to order in a bearing for the strut and they said they couldn't hear anything wrong with the transmission when driving it so I went back out to show them, but they said they hear anything and told me to just keep driving it till the problem gets worst so they can hear it because until they hear it they can't do anything about, and I asked about the safety concern because I lost transmission driving into an intersection and they respond by saying there’s nothing they can do till they can hear it. So after fighting with them they finally said they would get a mechanic that specialise on transmissions to take it for a drive next week. So basically then there probably going to tell me the same stuff over again I’m getting so fed up with ford......
