Steering limiter removal

I'm creating this thread in hopes it will attract first hand knowledge on how to remove the steering limiters on Foci equipped with 18" wheels.

If you know how to remove the limiters, please reply and share.

Here is a post from a wheel/tire thread...

At best, that line on the limiter c-clip is the opening that can be simply popped off the shaft and be done with it.

Good info.

Thanks spikeyjon! +Rep for you. That doesn't look too painful at all. I don't have limiters, just trying to help instigate resources for the Focus and this subject comes up often.

Anyone who removes the limiters, if you could submit feedback on how it went that would be great. Include part numbers for the replacement bands if you have them.

Sorry to bump an old post, but I cannot find the smaller limiters anywhere to replace the ones that came with my Ti package. Does anyone have a part number?

The instructions look very straight forward so I'm comfortable doing the work myself.

I agree - if anyone could point us in the right direction - or at least some generic ones that would work...?

Depending on what they are made of I was thinking of just cutting them down and putting them back on. However, if the part exists that would be my first choice.

I saw those pdf directions a few months ago on this forum and tried to look on Ford Parts for the smaller limiter part with no luck.

The steering component diagram showed no separate limiter part, so it's either integral to the steering rack or Ford refuses to sell it separately. Would love to hear if anyone has any success on this.

After looking here:

http://www.fordonlineparts.co.uk/pro...9_F1342639-128

http://www.sandicliffeshop.co.uk/pro..._F1342639-1096

I was under the impression you just removed them and there was nothing to put back in their place.
They do look like their split so you would not have to remove the tie rod.
(if these are the ones that are actually on our cars)

Nope. All the racks have limiters. Thinner limiters obviously allow more steer.
