Rear Defroster

Is it me or does the rear defroster automatically turn on when you start the car in cold weather without pushing on the rear defroster button?

Thanks.

Mine doesn't. I have to manually turn it on each time.

Well it's just that I see the area around the wires warm up a bit. I think it's just from the interior warm airflow. That or I should start taking my meds again. :)

Mine does this as well. Having said that, if you set the auto climate control to MAX DEFROST, it will turn on the rear glass/mirror defrost as well for the duration that setting is selected(even after cycling the vehicle on/off).

I suppose if you leave max defrost on it will do that every time you start the car.

The rear defrost turns on in cold weather, without the indicator lamp on the button coming on, in order to load the engine so that it warms up faster. The thinking is that the fuel you use on startup is offset by the fuel savings from the engine running at temperature. What point it turns on and how long it is on for have been up for debate.
