1st Gear Stumbling

My wife and I recently purchased a new 2013 Focus SE with the sport package. It's been great the first few hundred miles. My wife uses it as her commuter car and overall she's happy with it. I know it's taken a little time for her to get used to the DCT.

She did, however, complain that the 1st gear seemed 'jumpy' sometimes. I drove it to try and replicate the problem and occasionally I could get it to respond the same way. The best description I could use is when you're in a car and step on the gas hard enough to break traction and have the traction control kick in.

The dealer took a quick look at it, test drove it, and said they can feel what we're talking about and that before we hit 1000 miles, it will smooth out. The service advisor said the clutches need to "seat" and it'll smooth out.

Is that correct? I'm not doubting it is, but my wife doesn't believe it. I have no issues with the DCT and actually prefer the responsiveness.

I've tried doing some research on here, but it seems like a lot of people are complaining about hesitation in the low gears. I have no problems with the low gears, just that 1-2 shift.

Thanks in advance.

The dealership will not touch it unless it's a safety issue before 1,000 miles. I occasionally have a shift in the low gears (DCT) where the transmission feels like your leg does when it kicks you awake while you're falling asleep.

In my experience (2012 w/ tsb 123b7) it seems like it's meant to be driven slow in low gears for fuel economy purposes, probably why it lags and drags. It's much better from 3rd-4th or 4th-5th.

If I'm going slow, the transmission's great. It doesn't enjoy being hurried though, from my experience.

It should get better as you drive it. I has similar problems as well as others. I would say for the most part everything has been fine since about 2000 miles.
