Surging on acceleration

My DCT-equipped Focus "surges" and stumbles quite a bit when accelerating at more than a very modest rate (i.e. shift points > 2,500 rpm). By surging, I mean it doesn't accelerate evenly but the acceleration rate speeds up, slows down, etc.

Along with this, throttle response is pretty bad unless you really get on it.

Anyone else have these issues or had them fixed?

Car is a December 2011 build with all available updates including 12b37 and is running 89 octane major brand gasoline.

"Surging" might be a bit extreme in my case, but yes I have the uneven acceleration rate after 12B37. Throttle response is generally no worse than before except for the near-stall I had from a stop yesterday morning. Hoping it all works itself out eventually.

Same here. Right after 12B37. Seems just like major clutch slippage. Also no acceleration during turns. Have to wait till car straightens out and then that delay for it to figure out what gear to go in.

Yep, I get the same thing, slipping clutch, uneven acceleration, the whole 9 yards. Adding it onto all the trouble I've had with the rattling noise that has yet to be found or fixed (9 times in the shop with the most recent trip being 22 days), I'm really starting to hate this car. I drove a stick for 12 years and decided to take a break from it and get an automatic this time, worst mistake I've ever made. I also saw at the time that the auto got better gas mileage than the stick which helped my decision. Now after 12B37 I get worse gas mileage so the stick is probably better. /facepalm

Also a link to my whole story (minus this last trip to the shop which took 22 days and did not fix the problem: My '12 keeps breaking and I've never been in this situation before so I'd like to ask for advice.

Use this as precedent for a replacement Ford bought back my 2012 Focus....

Thank you very much for this link, this is something that I will definitely look into, as I have had so many issues with this car. Very disheartening since this is my second car ever and my first brand new car. I'd like to stay with Ford but I don't need the size that the Escape provides to justify paying another ~$10k for it.

I think they originally replaced it with another focus but that had issues as well, which is why he got an escape, you could probably just get a new focus, maybe a manual one or ST.

Yeah I agree, I love this car and I don't think I'd have any issues at all with a manual. The hard part will be finding a 2012 SE-Sport in a manual on my dealer's lot. I love my color too, which of course doesn't really exist anymore :-/ I could live with another color though for sure.

Don't want to advocate the nuclear option, but check your State's "Lemon Law". Most states have a trigger when the car is out of service more than 30 days in the first year. Looks like you're awfully close to that.

Hmm. I thought this was an engine/FI issue but I guess clutch slippage could also be the cause. Doesn't exactly make me feel better about it.
