Automatic headlights

I discovered early this morning that my car is equipped with the auto headlight sensor.
I looked on my original vehicle description sticker and that feature is not listed. Why?

Depending on your build date it may have been a feature added to the car as a standard feature. I know originally not all cars came with the kysor engine shutters up front, mine did not, but now it's apparently a standard item across all trim levels.

Just first year quirks, Ford learning what sells and what features customers like, that's why the SEL is removed entirely for the 2013 MY and instead replaced with more package options in the SE and Titanium.

All focuses have the light sensor, its mounted in the dash right at the windshield. The Automatic headlights are only one of the things that uses it, ambient lighting is another and the A/C system uses it as well. The A/C will adjust its output based on the amount of light hitting the sensor.. It is also used to determine whether the dome lights will illuminate or not.. (they don't illuminate during the day.. at least on mine.)

I'm not surprised that they did that. I looked at the SEL when I ordered my Focus but it just didn't have anything that I would have paid extra for. SE Sport FTW.

I guess I'll have to be the voice of dissenting opinion, sure if you wanted a 5 speed in the U.S. it was the most well equipped model until they finally made the Titanium available for ordering with the 5 speed, but the SEL was better equipped for the same price give or take $100 on the base SEL vs a loaded SE 203A DCT, but for 2013 they really messed up the options list by bundling everything from the SEL premium package into one super package for the SE in 2013 so the only way to get a hatch in 2013 with rear disk brakes is through either the SE appearance package here, which forces leather, and if you wanted the dual zone climate control which is a nice thing to have you now must have mft, something I wouldn't have wanted.

I was this close to ordering an SE sport 5 speed sedan or hatch, but when I did more research about the gear ratios and where that would place me on the freeway and at the various speeds that I would be driving it came up short. Do I miss shifting and clutching? Sometimes, and had there been a 6mt available in anything short of an ST that was geared appropriately or at least similarly to the DCT I might have considered it, such a gearbox is not currently offered in N.A.

Besides the particular paint color, Frosted Glass was not available as a sport package because in Ford's infinite wisdom you couldn't get it with a black interior, although in the new Escape it only comes in a Black interior, so go figure.

SEL 300A w/winter package.

Initially I was considering an S or an SE, but having gone through all the permutations of buildable configurations before ordering them and factoring in that more came both in the car and off of the price with the higher level through the pin provided by my grandfather for z-plan it really didn't make sense to order the SE sport. Ok so I traded what is nominally a firmer suspension (not that the standard suspension is that mushy), for nicer interior trim and appearance and a different set of 16" wheels.

Was wondering what that was. Is there any way to add auto headlights to a non-auto headlight model? Is it as easy as replacing the switch and maybe changing some config somewhere?

Mine are also manual levelling.

yup, it's that easy. On my 2012 S model I simply swapped out the headlight switch assembly to one with the auto setting and the auto-headlights worked immediately. No config change or anything. My original intent was to add fogs, which the new assembly supported, but I found my BCM didn't have the fog fuse socket so that mod failed. The auto-headlights were a happy accident so I kept the switch. Thinking back, I wish I had purchased the one with the trunk pop button instead.

I have a '13 Focus Ti with auto headlights which means that they go on and off automatically......this doesn't mean they adjust low and high beam automatically like in some countries.....after doing research I found out that is wasn't offered due to safely reasons.

awesome, but if I want auto lights then I lose the ability to manually adjust, yes? Don't see any adjuster on those switches.

What do you mean manually adjust? With the auto headlights you can still turn them on and off at will and switch to high beams with the toggle as normal
