A VW Driver for 20 years....now a Ford!

As the title said, I've had VW's for the last 20 years! Everything from GTI's to Passat's to Jetta's. I've always loved them, VW makes a hell of car. My last VW was a 2010 (bought in 09) Jetta Sport Wagon TDi, the diesel. Never really wanted a diesel, but at the time that is all they had. The regular gas versions had not come out yet. So got me my first diesel.

Very nice car and man did it move for a diesel with that turbo TDi engine. And talk about great gas mileage!

At the time, diesel fuel prices were pretty much in line with gas prices. But it started going up and up and up......etc. But I have a short commute. So short I go home for lunch! So I really was not taking full advantage of the diesel.

So now a Ford?? I have to admit, I love what Ford did with the Focus. I really like the look of this car. And all the stuff packed into it! Wow. Has more tech stuff than my Dad's Infinity!

So after 20 years....dumped the VW and picked me up a 2012 Focus Titanium last week. And yes, went for the Blaze Yellow!

So far I am enjoying it allot. Much different feel than the Jetta, not better or worse, just different. I must admit, I like the auto tranny in the Focus much better than the auto DSG tranny in the Jetta.

Well it is no GTI in terms of performance, but in this economy I'm more concerned with gas mileage than performance. Well glad to be a new Ford owner! Ok, the crappy cell photos. Took them right after I had the windows tinted.

Nice! The yellow looks awesome in the Titanium with the trim on the windows. Great car, and welcome to Ford! Love the Blue Oval!

Glad to see you went with something good looking. Some VW cars may be well made but not so attractive. Now Audi/Porsche make some nice looking cars. Most Mercedes look horrible too.

Congrats and welcome. You mention you like this DSG better than the VW's. I'd be interested in a brief comparison between the two after you've gotten a good feel for the Focus. If you get a chance.

Sweet ride! I was a 23 yr VW driver myself and just recently got a Focus Ti. Like you, I love it. I personally think the ride and handling of the Focus is sportier than the VWs.

Ford is on a roll and I'm thrilled to be driving American again.

A comparison of DSG to Power Shift, the VW shifts faster and with more authority. Mine was an '08 and it had many problems in the beginning with jerky starts off the line. It did NOT have Hill Start Assist and would roll on a hill if you weren't quick with the throttle. VW addressed some of the issues with software updates and a recall to replace the Meccatronic unit which made it much better.

The Powershift acts much more like a conventional automatic with torque converter. It's silky smooth off the line and by comparison the shifts are lazy. Select Shift mode is a bit sportier but not a true sport mode like VWs. It is not a true manual mode and will shift gears for you even if there is no danger of damaging the engine or transmission.

Overall Powershift is tailored to American tastes and I like it. I would prefer that it would shift much more quickly like the VW but it's not a deal breaker. For the record I have the firmware TSB 12-1-4 applied.
