I got my brand new ford focus station tourer (trend) in november 2011 with the double clutch gear. after 5000 Km I suddenly got an error message "hill start assist not available" and a yellow light of a slipping vehicle was also light.
After this error I notice that the hill start assist realy does not work anymore...
when I stop in a hill even a little hill, then when I start driving the car reversed backward alittle before start driving forward.
I send the car for repair and the car now is in the garage for 4 days and the technical man told me they dont know what is the problem he told me that for example they fix something, the problem apears to be solved, they drive it for 40 minute and then the problem come back.

I have had this problem also. I have had the car 9 days now and it has happened 3 times. The first 2 times the problem went away in about 20 seconds. It happened again today and I had to restart the car to fix it. Along with the Hill Start message I got the ABS light and the Stability Control System light. Taking it to dealer on Friday.
Did anyone receive a resolution on this? I've just taken my vehicle to the dealership with the same problem (ABS + stability control lights constantly on, hill assist unavailable message at start-up). As a bonus problem, my speedometer stopped working at the same time.
Received a call from the dealer: The issue is a "faulty ABS sensor".
It totally makes sense, given that if the computer can't read the movement of all four wheels, it shouldn't enable power steering, stability control, or give a speedometer reading. I'm sort of impressed that the solution is to just have the car drive like an old car, that doesn't have any fancy technology.
Did everyone on this thread end up with the faulty abs sensor diagnosis? Dd this fix the issue? I'm experiencing the same thing on a late 2011 uk focus titanium that I just bought.
Do these warning lights come up during a long run and does the car loose power (limp mode)?
That's what's happening to mine 2011 U.K. Focus. If I turn the engine off for 10 minutes or so, sometimes the problem goes away, otherwise it goes over night.
I had similar problem with my Fiesta 2009, lost power on long run, turn off then on and it was fine for a while. In the end, after cleaning the turbo a few times (hoping it would solve the problem), it was diagnosed with a faulty injector, replaced it - problem solved!
Did you get your problem sorted?
I have the same problem with my 2011 Ford Fiesta. Took it to the dealer and they did a diagnostic. Said it was a hydraulic pump failure and that it would cost $1600 to repair. Did it take some guess work for them to arrive at the sensor?
My car is doing the same thing and I have taken it in many times and they always say they can't fix it unless they see what it is doing.
Anyone have answers for this issue???????
I am extremely annoyed!!!!
Ask your service adviser to check for corrosion on the soldered connector on the instrument binnacle PCB connector.
I have read about this issue from a few UK MK3 Focus owners and they all had the issue fixed by cleaning the connector.
It is worth asking to have this checked to see if this could be the issue.
My 2012 Ford Focus has an issue that happens every so often. When I first bought the car, it had 20,000 miles on it. As I was driving is home, the hill start assist is unavailable light would blink randomly and the dash lights would turn on for only a split second. This would happen for 1-3 minutes and then stop. After traveling for a couple hours, I pulled over and shut it off thinking everything was fine I went to start it and it didn't do anything. No lights, key fob wouldn't lock the doors, nothing. The next morning, it started up just fine. 5 days later, I go to start the car and it has the same problem. I notice a weird noise coming from near the glove box and a similar noise coming from the dome light. While the key was in the on position in the ignition, at one point the dash lit up like it was going to start up. I tried to start it but it didn't and the dash lights shut off. What is wrong? I will let you guys know if it starts tomorrow. If it does, I may take it to the dealer.
My GF has a 2013 Focus that was having the same problem. It would show the " hill start assist is not available", the abs and traction control lights would come on. And 2x her car would not start, no electric whatsoever. We shot a video of it while driving and had the dealership watch it. They had it fixed later that day. The problem?? Loose battery cable, that was it. It has been 2 months how and it hasn't happened since.
I have the same problem, been to the dealer three times.
This last time the tech suggested replacing the air filter???? He said it could be my K&N Air filter! For a Hill start assist not available" error?????
Today the car ran fine. I get home and plug and unplug a few fuses looking for a place to add a relay that will come on when the engine is running. After pushing around on the fuses, the stupid Hill Start Assist Light Came on again. I can usually clear it by disconnecting the battery, but that didn't work this time. A BAD SPEED SENSOR makes sense to me, BUT A Loose battery connection? MAYBE A BAD BATTERY WITH INTERNAL ISSUES?
Is there anybody from Ford on here that has any suggestions? I really like my Focus but this is getting old fast.
Last Monday 07 Sep 2015 , My Focus Sedan 1.6 AT 2013 have message " Hill Start Assistan Not Available" and light Engine on dast board. I sent my car to dealer in Vietnam .
They clean jack, bugi, check battery ex....But not resolve it.
I hear that they must clear and reinstall soft to ECU, but it only shut off Engine light.
Error " Hill Start Assistan Not Availbe " append when start.
The last time I took it in they said evrything checked out ok. It will drive fine for a few days then out of the blue it starts acting up again. Unfortunately this car had been nothing but problems. It's been to the dealer 5 times for the transmission, and each time they say it has a bad clutch and needs replaced. That's fine but what is causing this? Now I need a new transmission mount I would assume from taking the transmission in/out so many times. Luckily it has all been covered under extended warranty besides the $100 deductible I will need for the tranny mount. It has 81000 and warranty up to 100000. I would like to get this resolved before they warranty goes. Hopefully these electrical problems will get worked out as well...
Thanks! I recommend setting up a follow-up appointment. Once you do, please private message me your VIN, updated mileage, best daytime phone number, and full name.
