The rigid-ness of a Sedan or Coupe versus a hatch is different, the hatch will tend to have more flex in the body then the Sedan. IE - The Mustang II Hatch versus the Coupe, the Coupe was a better Drag or road car for the non caged class. once you cage it it really doesnt matter what you have. But the tightness is in the cross steal behind the back seats, roof and the back of the car where the Hatch only has the roof and back of car. Im pretty sure this still happens today. I know back in the Fox Body Mustang days, the coupe was a better handling and quicker car also due to less flex in body

Its possible that the one piece of steel that forms tat bridges the bottom of the rear window and the top of the trunk could add more stiffness, but with Boron steel structural components, the gains could be negligible.

Additionally, I think the main reason they go for a hatch is because of the whole "hot hatch" automotive scene. A Hatchback is the union of form an function, someone who wants a sporty car, but has 2 kids, or a drum set/dog/stuff and things. And thus it has a very large base to appeal to.

When you look at the "Hot Sedan/Coupe" you are essentially looking at the other 90% of the market that is dominated by the true and tested performance European and Asian Imports with the occasional well put together domestic in there as well. When you look at it this way, a FWD C class car looks like a very weak competitor.

So in the end, modding the Hatch just produces the most bang for any companies buck.

Very very good point, just as in Europe the Wagon is the Shite lol....I have grown to like the sedan more, and would like to see some modded Roush or other after market ride.

If you look at the Foglight bezels in the first pic, they are piano black, i just got me a set mailed from the Land Down under. all standard black color. Im going to pic up a can of gloss black fusion so they will match the grilles, Ill get some pix before and after I change them. and I can tell ya they were MUCH cheaper then just one of the SE chrome ones here.
