It's too hard to shift when it tells you in order to get the best mileage because it just begs to rev more :P

Speed limit on the Turnpike here is 70, but people do 80 or 90, the funny thing is often someone will fly by me at a high rate of speed, I get off my exit and I am either sitting next to them at the light or end up way ahead of them because they get stuck behind in traffic by being in the wrong lane.

Don't know what speeding tickets are in sd but they are super cheap up here in nd and super expensive in mn!

What I do to save gas.....drive with the wind at my back as much as I can! Crazy how bad aerodynamics on this car are. Drive against the wind and you might as well be driving a Taurus.

The Focus' coefficient of drag is around .27 which is really good, and may be class-leading. Wind can make a big difference, but try driving a Taurus into the same stiff wind and see how it compares.

Ya I think the Mazda 3 has a slightly lower drag coefficient. Either case I still love my car :D

Update! So if you reset your battery and start then driving in cold weather, you're going to have a bad time :P and low mpg ahah

Now that things are warmer AND the car's ECU/TCU have learned a little more now, I'm up in mpg. A test run which is virtually all highway (100km to 90 to 70 till stop) I got the car up to 49MPG. This is having to switch to my spare spark plugs as when I went to take a spark plug out to check how the lower gap affected burn rates, it shattered the insulator :(

Luckily the pieces fell apart outside of engine bay area. Lower gap may decrease all chances of spark blow out (not that it would matter being N/A, even at 12:1 comp ratio) the plugs just looked bad.

What I did: Threw in my spare one step HOTTER NKG Iridium plugs. Gapped this time to .040. Might check burn profile of the spark plugs in a week but we'll see.

I recently did my first oil change (at 3500 miles, early I know) with Amsoil signature and Ceratec; plus I raised my tire pressure from 35 to 40psi all around. picked up about 3-5mpg.

Agreed. This was more of an experiment as I plan on getting summer tures and wheels later.

I will say it handles better at 40psi too not as spongy.

So far, better mpg and better handling...i can live with a little shorter tire life, as long as its not wearing out too fast.
