The metallic colors were pulled from availability for around a month or so due to a shortage of Xirallic, which is produced in only one factory that is around 30 miles from the nuclear reactors in Japan. Once the paint supply problem was resolved, the metallic colors were available for orders again.
I honestly don't know why Red Candy isn't more popular since it really stands out...of course, some people are afraid of that, but I hate having a car that just blends into all the bland colored cars...whites and grays being the most common. Pictures can't do justice to the metallic colors since they sparkle a bit in the sun and the look changes a bit based on lighting.
Posted via FF Mobile Tuxedo black and kona blue are still out and will be replaced by flat black. Kona blue has not been official replaced yet, but rumor is itll be sonic blue.
It's my understanding the plant that produced the Tuxedo Black (and Kona Blue?) is in the radiation zone in Japan and will be out of commission for quite some time. Years, not weeks.
Sterling Grey Metallic!! Absolutely love love love this color and VERY happy I chose it!! I was set on Ingot Silver for a while because my mazda6 was silver and I loved how it always looked cleaned.. then I thought wait a min, I wanna do something different!! I love the metallic in the sun... it sparkles like crazy!!
I almost wanted Blue Candy.. I might be weird, but I actually liked what it looked like on the website more than in person lol. I seen one at a gas station a few weeks ago and it really is nice!! Its so bright, you can't miss it!!!
Thanks for the information. My wife was going back and forth between Kona Blue and Red Candy (if we ordered the TI, if we ordered an SEL she would probably want the race red).
Will be hard to spend the extra $$ on Red Candy when I don't know what the RZ paint code looks like compared to the U6 paint code.
I wanted the race red, but when I got to the dealership the red was sold. All there was left was oxford white and I needed the car that day. White works!
I initially wanted tuxedo black or kona blue just by judging off the Ford website, leaning mainly toward kona blue. I didn't like the kona blue nearly as much in person but loved the tuxedo black. As everyone knows, though, it got discontinued for new orders. After a nationwide search for the exact car that I wanted with the options I wanted and no others, I found one a couple states a way. I flew to California two days ago and drove my tuxedo black Focus Titanium hatchback with MFT/nav, winter package, handling package back to Washington. It was entirely worth it. I didn't really like any of the other colors.
To summarize, my vote would be for tuxedo black above all others. I can't vote, though.
You are a lucky man. I wanted tuxedo black Ti with tuscanny, 401a, Parking package, winter package, sport package, nav, moonroof, and exterior protection package. It does not exist in the USA, so I had to order, then I found out tuxedo black is no longer available. I almost said heck with it and ordered a golf tdi with bi-xenons. I just could not forget how fun it was drive compared to the VW. Yes the torque was great but for the price of diesel I could not justify the cost and the 1% failure or TDI engines in the US due to impurities in the diesel fuel.
There were only three in the USA like I wanted, one of which was only about 30 miles from me when I started searching. I called them up and found out that it never touched the lot. Someone saw it on a truck and literally followed the truck to the dealership to buy it. There was the one that I bought in California and another in Indiana or something. I was just going to order until I found out that tuxedo black wasn't available, which got me going on the nationwide search.
Can't vote yet but put me down for Sterling Grey ! Not my first choice...that was the White Platinum but I did not want to order and the Sterling Grey was on a truck to the dealer so I bought it before it arrived.
It was down to Blue Candy and Yellow Blaze ... went with YB. Titanium w/ winterpackage and moon roof was just ordered. VIN will be posted when notified. [hihi]
I'm done buying red cars. I sort of like the Kona Blue, and think that will be probably what I'll buy if/when I get mine.
I don't see the point of paying an extra $500 for the yellow tri-coat paint job. It's just a color, in my opinion. (As long as it's not pink/purple the color really isn't an issue to me, IMO.)
It is kind of nuts to pay an extra $500 for a color, but it is definitely not just any yellow. I suppose that scoring an X plan pin from a Ford friend took the edge off. Heck, my "other" vehicle will end up being an '06 Toyota Sienna ... even the Titanium I am ordering will be quite a bit cheaper.
I would imagine it's because there are probably still dozens if not hundreds of cars already in inventory in that color so they need to show it.
However, you cannot special order it any more, they stopped production on it a while ago when the supplies ran out as a result of the earthquake in Japan.
Actually, after looking at more and more Focus HB's online, I think I may go with the blue candy color (the ligher blue) after all. The Kona blue looks a bit odd up close, but the candy blue I like. The frosted glass color may be a possiblility, but only if I can't find a candy blue one in my price range...
I was interested in Red Candy, but I couldnt see any colors in person except Race Red -- so I went with my standby, Silver. I love silver cars! In fact, my current 2008 focus is silver and I love it!
Of course, the Kona blue looks amazing from the photos I have seen, and I did see somene driving the candy blue. I dont like blue personally, so it was out of the question.
I saw the red candy in person, it is a pretty dark red/maroon but I kind of liked it. Of course this was the older paint code that is no longer available, supposedly the new one is close enough that they can keep the name of it the same and just change the paint code number.
I think any red is bad luck for me. I've had three red Focuses so far. And with each, something's happen to each of them (out of 3 incidents, 2 times I wasn't even in the car... it was parked, and something still managed to happen to them!)
So, as bad as this sounds, I'm not getting another red car for a while. As it stands right now, a blue colored car is I think the way I'm heading.
Not to mention, out of all vehicles I've had (of various colors) the red ones were the biggest PITAs to get painted. Most of them took two runs to get the color right(to match the rest of the car--of course I was later told that reds are hard to match when doing body work).
Point being, no more red cars for me, unless of course the dealer gives me one heck of a deal on one.
And for those who think red is more visible... it may be during the day, but what I've found is at night, it doesn't matter what color your car is... most people aren't paying attention anyway if they hit you. The reason for an accidently is usually that people weren't paying attention... My dad thinks that red cars are easier to see at night. I don't quite think so... and I have had 2 red cars to prove his theory sort of wrong.
They stand out well during the day, but at night when there is no light hitting the car, from a distances you can't really tell red from dark red, from other colors. All you see is a car in many cases (especially around here where on country roads it's pretty dark).
My first red car was a 69 bug that I built from the ground up in the late eighties. I went to see National Lampoons Christmas Vacation at a local mall and when I came out the entire rear end of my car was a foot shorter. Some drunk girl in a CRX decided to cut through the parking lot and didn't make it too far. My second was a Eunos Roadster in Japan ( Miata ). I was parked in a parking garage above a supermarket and someone decided to try and drift their car through the parking garage. The front end of my car was about thirty feet away from my parking spot. My Acura has bumps and bruises from airport parking lots. I just don't understand how you can be so careless with your luggage that you hit someone's car, make a dent and don't give a crap. My company pays for the damage but that eats into our bottom line. People today are just so careless and have the "it wasn't me" attitude. Enough of my ranting, I wanted a red car again but my wife said I had a bad omen with red vehicles. She told me to buy something silver, but that just reminds me of my hair color. I am going black.
Hah. You guys are making me second guess my choice for candy red. I have never owned a red car, thought it would be fun. I have had two brown, three grey, one silver and one green.
Everyone's luck is different. Or maybe it's karma, pick what you like and you will be happy. I loved those red cars and have fonder memories than all of the other colors combined..
The damned wife stopped this one though. Maybe I will buy a red ST in a year or two.......
I think it is jealousy!
Hmm now that I look at some of the latest dents they look mysteriously like some of her shoes.....
Anyway, if you want red do it!
