Keyless entry keypad?

I was wondering if anyone has added the keyless entry keypad. The part costs only $78.54, and the dealer installation is only $20 or so more according to the Ford accessory site.

$20 for installation? Is it a stick-on battery powered device? Seems too low priced to be a hard wired device (and I doubt drilling is required)

Anyone have any experience with this? Seems like a neat feature. I used it a lot on my wife's old car when I needed to get into it and she had the keys.

Thanks for the quick reply. I may pick one up and stick it on the inside of the gas lid or someplace out of sight.

I've thought of doing the same exact thing, as a hide-a-key. If you get to it before I do (still waiting for my car) please let us know how it works out.

Can't be too hard to test. Program it up and just hold it by the gas flap and see if it works or not. It is self contained and sticks on with double sided tape. It is just going to depend on the range, but I can't imagine they made it only a foot or so.

Doesn't the gas lid get locked along with the rest of the car? Or am I just not thinking about the keypad right?

I have it on my SEL, and am not crazy about it. It was a dealer add on, and to me it looks like a cheap piece of plastic stuck to my door. So far I have left it alone, cause I know that as soon as I remove it my kids will lock the keys in the car.

no. the gas lid isn't locking. you just press it and it pops open. while it's not super secret and secure, it might be a good place to hide the number strip from prying eyes (and fingers!). in place of a "hide a key" magnet box stuck in a wheel well some place. lock your keys out or missing? flip open the gas flap, punch in a few digits and your car unlocks. most people won't expect to be looking in there and if they do they are still trying to guess your passcode.

I was thinking of it. However I only ever use my remote to lock my keys.

Keypads are nice at the beach. Lock everything in the car and just take your towel and flip-flops.

Bummer it doesn't work with the IA.
