I can't say if it's the same color as the Phillip's H11 but when I tested his H9s compared to the H11's I purchased, the H9s were much brighter and better looking. So I returned the H11's and am ordering the H9s, I just keep forgetting to ask my friend which pair of H9s he bought.
get back to us if you can on which H9's it was your friend got; as im looking at changing my Low's asap

Ditto on this. I'll order a set if we can use the H9s in our cars.

I am currently waiting for my Hella H9 bulbs to get shipped to me, I was hoping they'd be here today but the USPS is awful in my area. If I get them soon I'll be sure to post pictures in my lighting thread.

So here's Daniel's reply to my e-mail.
Quote:
Not safe in a reflector-type headlamp such as the one in your new Focus. Dangerous levels of glare regardless of lamp aim. Instead, use http://store.candlepower.com/bconibr90ulh5.html
I then asked what determines if a housing is alright to use an H9 in.

Quote:
There are several factors that go into it:

-Optical design (a VOL headlamp might be "yes", a VOR is
usually going to be "no" because of the relatively high
levels of glare VOR headlamps direct towards oncoming
traffic when aimed properly)

-Presence of full-cap bulb shield is mandatory -- a partial
shield, a ring-type shield, or no shield means no H9.

-Reflector size is crucial. It needs to be BIG; if its small
the high unit luminance means high levels of glare
regardless of lamp aim.

good to know Doug, thanks those H11s are a bit expensive... I assume "dangerous levels of glare" is for other drivers?

What about this point made by him. Since the Mazda works with a projector, and the Focus uses Reflectors?

Note that the H9 swap is not universal; it works well in projector-type low beams but is not safe in most reflector-type low beams or in fog lamps of any type

I'm not a fan of the NightBreakers at all between the price and short life span. Yeah, the glare affects the other drivers.

I think I'm going to keep the stock bulbs until true aftermarket HID kits are made available or if I am able to get the OEM Euro-Spec headlights when I go to Europe in a few months.

Oh, so the Mazda 3 has projector lows? I had assumed they were reflectors.

I think I'm going to stick with reasonably price H11s for now too and get some better than OEM H1s.
