Rattles

I have a 2012 Ford Focus SE Hatchback (with moon-roof) that was purchased in April of 2012. I too have had problems with the headliner rattling in several places. When you push the headliner up to contact the roof, the rattle goes away, but it always comes back a short while later. As suggested by others, it is no doubt faulty adhesive at the core of the problem.

On another topic, my blue-tooth audio really has started to suck. I have to repeat my commands several times and people claim that they can barely hear me on phone calls due to a large amount of noise that sounds like a wind tunnel. Anyone else having this issue? Sync services suggested that maybe the microphone is bad and needs replacing. I guess it is time for an extended service call to my dealer, but I am skeptical that they will be helpful with these issues.

My 2012 Focus has been rattle free ..... except, now the driver seat creaks sometimes. Doesn't sound like it's coming from the rails. Sounds like it's coming from within the seat itself. Mainly the bottom cushion. Weird. I'm 5' 10" about 176 lbs. So I'm somewhat average height & weight. Never had a creaking seat before.

Hi mmable and Pennut,

Your dealership will be happy to check out any bothersome noises coming from your Focus. Make an appointment and they'll perform an inspection. As always, I'm happy to do what I can to help; send a PM my way with your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name so I can get started. :)

Crystal,

It is nice to know that Ford actually cares about their customers, so thanks for your reply. Besides the noises from the headliner, I have a few other issues that I was going to bring up to the dealer: my Sync system is almost unusable for Blue Tooth calls - everyone says it sounds like I am in a wind tunnel and it does not recognize my voice commands much of the time. The tech I talked to at Sync said that it sounds like the microphone in the car is bad. Also, the car is very herky-jerky on starts from a stop, sort of like a manual clutch jumping on engagement. I know the focus uses a different clutching system than a true automatic, but the car didn't behave like this when it was new and has gotten worse over time. Any help you could lend would be appreciated.

Marc

My local dealer took care of a couple annoying rattles in my headliner a few weeks ago. Turned out not only the headliner needed replacing but a plastic rail that had separated and cracked within the moonroof mechanism. Took a few days to replace everything but now my car is really quiet.

The only noise/squeak that bothers me is one coming from the seat belt upper anchor adjuster on the drivers side. Since it's so close to my head even a tiny noise is noticeable. What it appears to be is the plastic cover that push to change the height and it rattles a little making the noise. I'm looking at putting some double sided tape or something to tighten it up so it won't rattle anymore.

Anyone else have this? If so, what, if anything, have you done to fix it?

It's intermittent... grin and bear it? But I think that velvety tape that's on the seatbelt attachment by the center console would work.

Up in moon roof area, my passenger handle has been making this infuriating knocking noise.
I can point out exactly where this is. You can even replicate the sound by pulling on the handle. Along with loads of other creaky ticks and tacky sounds in the roof. Noisiest most annoying car ever that I am stuck with.

Had it from new for 7/8 months and the "refinement" has been an absolute pain. Driving to work each day the entire way, Tick tick TICK tick tick THUD tick tick thud clunk clunk tick tick tick tick tick tick tick.

Already had it taken into taylor ford dealer what... 6+ times now and they have not been able to resolve the issue. It is easily reproducible and I've even recorded multiple videos to show them. They either claim to not be able to find/hear it, and the fixes they finally tried to perform have not fixed anything.

I have to live with it every day, and if I knew it would be ANYTHING like this I would not have bought this car. Wouldn't even have touched it. I have to be driven crazy by this -new- rattlebox that I can't even get rid of because the resale value is crap and would lose over 13/14 thousand dollars for owning it for half a year.

A miserable experience, wishing I never bought it really.

Hi lckyjj10,

Please PM me your VIN and odometer reading; I'll look into options for you.
