It sounds like people's wait times can vary quite a bit, though I haven't spent a ton of time reading everyone's experiences. Can anyone give me some idea of how common a month and a half wait before even a build date is scheduled is?
It doesn't make any sense to me at all why some get their car in 5 weeks and others are in your situation The sterling gray color isn't a delay factor AFAIK. I don't have a window sticker yet but my dealer said it would be built on the week of the 25th of July so at least I know what is going on. I'll be lucky to get eight or nine weeks for the total wait time which is OK with me. If I were you, I would start going up the chain to see what the delay is all about.

Think so? He says when he checks the status it simply says something like "received, plain" (as best I can remember). Which he tells me means that they've received the order, that there's no problems, but it's not scheduled.

Any idea what that might look like? I really don't have a clue what's possible for them. I mean, I'd hate to get on his case if all he can really do is go check the status again.

Update: The status reads "on-schedule, clean" (with "clean" meaning "no problems")

But he doesn't know anything new about build dates. etc.

Like I say, I'm not at all familiar with the inner workings of this stuff, but "on-schedule" sure does seem to imply the existence of a schedule!

Going in after work. Going to be nice at first and if they don't cooperate I am prepared to raise my voice!

not magical at all. anyone can get it. just go to this web site, type in your VIN, and click the button. You'll download a PDF of your Window sticker, the build date is in the upper left, starting with 12011 or 22011 followed by month and day of your build date. for example 120110704 for july 4th.

it's also a good idea to verify the sticker and see that the car comes equipped with everything you were planning. it is too late to change it if something is wrong, but you can give your sales folk hell (and possibly order a different vehicle).

Hi Scott,
At what point in the ordering process should one be able to get the VIN?
