2011 Ford Focus Timing Belt or Chain?

Okay, so I am a little confused about what my Focus is using for the engine. From what I've read it seems all Focus after 2008 have timing chains. However, when I look at my engine it sure looks like a timing belt.
Here are my specs

2011 Ford Focus SE
2.0L I4 SMPI

Yes it seems so. I'm looking everywhere but all I see is a belt. When did Ford switch to/out of the chain?

2011 Focus in the USA is what we call a MkII here (US/Canada version) and it uses a duratec engine similar to what Wavsine posted for the MkIII. Does not have the adjusting cam gears seen in that picture.

Chain drive cams, it's all hidden under the covers at the end of the engine beside the serpentine belt that runs accessories. THAT is the belt you can see, and it is NOT cogged to make things run in time with each other like a cam belt used in addition to a serpentine on engines in earlier models.

Moved this to the MkII section where it fits better. NO MkIII in the US until 2012.

Oh I see. So if I understand correctly, the belt I see on my lefthand side facing the engine is just a serpentine belt. The timing chain itself is not visible from that perspective.

Actually...I am still a little confused. So my engine does run on a timing chain? I just can't see it.

It's internal since it runs in the oil bath like the rest of the engine's internals.

IIRC you nay JUST be able to see it through the oil fill cap if you peek to the left.

When you look at the valve cover, note the two long sections covering the cams, and the section to the left (by serpentine) that connects the two. that's where the chain runs across between the two cam sprockets.

Wavsine's picture was taken from the end of the engine with end & top covers removed (actually a cut away cam cover at the top for the picture, black portions on top are part of the valve cover).

For sure, the external belts are simply the accessory serpentine.

Here's a build pic from another Focus site that'll show you:

Timing chain turns the oil pump and cams, driven by the crankshaft.

Also, FYI, this image shows a ZETEC engine from an early focus showing the serpentine belt (accessory drive run from external crank pulley) and the timing belt (protected under covers, wide, perpendicularly ribbed belt for engine timing drive).
