Question Side Moulding

My '05 ZX3 SE came without the color side moulding. Where can you buy the side moulding from and how does it attach?

Probably Ford itself, or try junkyards first.
And not sure, double tape?

Some of the 05's have side mouldings so you just need to order a set colormatched for an 05 from Ford and you'll have them.....

If you buy them from Ford, they'll cost you around $200 for the entire set.
My GF's 05 ZX3 SE didn't come with them and I couldn't believe they wanted so much for them.
She has the ZX3 so who knows, they might charge more for the Sedans.

They are attached with industrial strength double sided 3M tape.

Your best and cost efficent route would be to get some plain black ones from the junk yard for less than $50 for the set and paint them yourself.

^^^^ yeah but don't they have those clips on the back of the older ones that go into the door? If that is the case, what would you do? Cut the clips off and use the tape? Just curious.... trying to remember what they look like on the back. Either way, great alternative to that price.....

They have pins on the back of the side trims. The pins are used for allignment only and are not secured on the backiside. You would be able to dremel down the pins, but then you have to be very careful when you press the mouldings on to get them straight.
I would dremel all but the end pins on each piece and drill holes for just these pins. That way you still have them alligned but limit the ammount of drilling.
And yes they are secured by automotive grade 3M double side tape.

So the side moulding is clipped and taped. Kind of overkill.

Not clipped, just holes drilled in the body and the pins are used to allign the moulding. No clips on the insides.

Some models do have mouldings, but most do not. You are right though, the models without do not have holes or dimples. You will have to drill holes. Thats why I suggested to dremel off all but the end pins so you only have to drill 4 holes per side and insure you have it lined up right.
But as far as drilling the holes in the right place? Well the moulding fits directly under the body line and you tell where it should be horizontally by the ends that meet the door edge.
You sould hold the moulding to the side of the car and make the locations of the pins that you will drill for. Then used a center punch to ensure your bit will not travel. Then drill em out.

Well, the 05's with no body moldings have not holes or divits for alignment.

You know I can see this process getting out of hand in no time. Drilling holes in the car, etc unless your experienced isn't a very good DIY job. Best to fork out the cash and get the professionals to do it.
