Keys, key fobs and trunk lock

Hi guys,
I currently have 1 key and 1 fob for my 2008.

Am I stuck going to the dealer to get an additional key and fob made up?

Also, my key doesn't work to open my trunk. I was told it didn't work since it was new. Is there anyway to get a new lock cylinder re-keyed to match my ignition?

Thanks for any help.

You can add fobs, key is Dealer or good locksmith with computer to hook up to the car.

Story on trunk lock sounds like BS, do try freeing it up with repeated shots of lube in case it's just frozen up & not changed out.

To add a fob, look at page 70 in your manual or the PDF copy from Ford's website. As far as the key itself goes, just like sailor said you will need a good locksmith with a computer to program it or go to the dealer. Since you only have one key you cannot program an additional one yourself (if you had two keys and wanted to add a third one, then you could add it yourself). My buddy couldn't find any locksmith's that could do it in our area for his Fusion, so it seems like going that route is kind of rare.

As far as just getting the actual second key and fob, you could look at ebay if you just need a backup set, it's going to be much cheaper. Just make sure it's a chipped key and a remote that says it works with your year.

I would try avoiding going to a dealer for a new key. They will charge through the roof. $180 was what I was told when I called. I found a locksmith who did made a new key for $60. Then buy a third key off eBay and program it yourself using your two keys and put it away in case of emergency

If you don't have two original keys, programming the key yourself is out of the question. I like to buy the key blank online then have it cut at a locksmith.

I bought a blank key from eBay and had them cut at a hardware store for about $2, giving me three keys.

Also three OEM remotes, also from eBay.
