I think if the OP takes a close look, they'll find a small chip near the edge of the glass. Mine cracked yesterday and looks very similar. A close look revealed a small chip in the glass about 1/4" from the edge.

I doubt that the chasis is flexing enough to cause the windshield to crack. The polyurethane used to attache the glass to the frame has a small amount of flexibility in it to withstand temperature extreems.

There are things called micro-cracks (or micro-fractures) in almost everything that is mass manufactured. Sometimes they just stop being micro, and become normal cracks.

Think about this guys, an ice tray, how do you get the ice out? You twist is and then it separates.

Happens with high powered drag cars, the car launches with a wheel stand, the body torques over (like an ice tray) and the windshield cracks. Or the sunroof glass pops out onto the track.

On top of that I think there was an underlying micro fracture that got upset from the chassis flex.

Yeah well if he had 600ft/lb of torque and was doing wheelies in reverse, I'd expect that this could be caused by flex.

But entering a chickfila parking lot? No. If that was the case then I'd have to replace my windshield after every autocross I go to.

It's either a cheap windshield that was replaced before he bought the car or it was already cracked and he just never noticed it until it was a big crack.

I don't think it's from flex. My Taurus was so rusty underneath, that if the car was flexed at all, the doors wouldn't open or shut properly. Never popped the windshield.
