Clear Coat over Rockers / Door Sills?

I've seen a few "early" 2nd Generation Focuii with rocker panels starting to rust along with the sills.

Mine are NOT rusted yet, and the paint is not chipped. I like Ford products, and have owned a few. If there is one thing Fords are good at it is rusting. I'm a firm believer that mechanically, Ford makes excellent products, but they rust WORSE than anything else on the road. I want to try to prevent that.

I go a bit overboard to keep my car from rusting. It gets sprayed with oil numerous times along with me hand greasing all suspension / driveline components. (For example, PS lines, CV Axle, CV Axle threads, Tie Rods).

I run waste oil down all of the body drains to keep them from rusting from the inside out.

It seems that they chip easily and then once chipped, it 'll rust.

I'm thinking of putting another coat of clear on my rocker panels and door sills to give an extra coat of "protection" from the elements.

Anyone have any thoughts?

well being in NY that's a good idea. idk if you would be able to tell where you stopped. I would just spray them with clear plastidip or give it a strip if you wanted color but that's just my opinion. im going to plastidip my rims as soon as I get back just to seal them and see how I like it. but ill ive thought about spraying clear plastidip underneath the car to try and prevent the elements to take the toll on my car but idk if I can find jack stands tall enough to get under it and have freedom of movement with my paint gun.

The clear coat wouldn't really change appearance, just be another coat of protection.

Underneath will be sprayed with a paint gun and oil. It's actually getting pretty thick underneath the car, which I like. There's a layer of old oil and dirt that is protecting the rest of the car from rusting!

The orange cancer will make its appearance starting at where the pinch weld is and work its way out. Abuse from technicians hoisting the car usually scores the paint and allows the paint to oxidize. Ive coated my underside in rubberized undercoating ($9) you can go to a more expensive temporary coating like a clear spray on stone guard by 3m (+$45). There are rust treatments out there that convert rust into a paintable primer but will cause bare metal to rust.
