LED DDM Tuning Tail lights heads up!

I was flagged down on the way home tonight by a guy telling me that my brake lights and turn signals worked, but not my tail lights.

When I got home I verified that my brake lights and turn signals work, but that my tail lights, tag light and front parking lights were out. Found fuse 22 blown. Replaced it with another 15AMP fuse and it blew right away. Im going to dig deeper tomorrow in the day light it seems.

figured it out. when we wired the resistor in, we zip tied the resistor to the trunk. the resistor got so hot that it melted the zip tie and the resistor was loose behind the trunk liner (and actually started to melt the plastic liner/trim) there was one wire that was taped in with one of those plastic wire taps. the wire then touched the metal of the trunk and shorted out, thus blowing the fuse.

my fix was to drill holes and screw the resistors in place.

there not going anywhere now.

my advice for anyone else who used zip ties, get the drill and screws out!

There's no way that resistor should be that hot. You need a higher wattage resistor.

OR

Your real problem is a short AFTER the resistor, which is possibly what caused it to get hot enough to melt plastic. You should keep looking for an issue I think.
