New SES Owner!

Hi there all! I'm a new (alright, one month old) owner of a 2011 SES. Had about 27800 on it when I bought it. Car is a former rental vehicle, so I know it was well maintained. Also had all tune up stuff done by the dealer taking delivery along with a state inspection. I bought it to replace my 2004 Dakota I bought back in the fall... GREAT driving truck, fantastic sound system (especially if the Kenwood Excleons I had in the rear and the X895 head unit), but a gas guzzling pig (13.5mpg on average) that needed one thing after the other. So I regretfully parted with it for the Focus. Prior to the truck I had a 1993 Corolla I loved, but traded to a family member towards the truck because I'd wanted it since it was new. Good car. No power, but a good vehicle.

So the specs on the SES:
Sangria Red Metallic
2.0L Duratech I4
4 speed A/T
Kumho Solus Tires (OEM I believe?)
Audiophile package (Subwoofer)
Sync
Automatic Dimming Rearview
Sunroof
Ambient Lighting
Chrome Exhaust tip
Spoiler

I'm going to be using it as a commuter through college, but hope to enjoy it as well. Already added hood stripes to it. Might do stripping on the side but I'm on the fence as to it being over the top. Maybe have the rear windows tinted lightly too (maybe 50), though PA cops are infamously picky about that due to the awful wording of the laws. I was thinking of maybe a Roush CAI too, but I don't want to void the warranty right now or make it too loud so that will probably have to wait. I tend to replace/upgrade parts as they wear out, rather than toss things off for upgrades, so you never know what I'll do in the future. Do you guys think parts for the 2.0L will be readily available in the future?

I may or may not put the 6.5" Kenwoods into the car, depends on if I can find a decent 6x8" adapter and if I think the difference in speaker size will cause issues with the "balance" of the sound. I typically find a major difference in speaker size will make the smaller ones sound weak (duh), though I didn't have issues with them in the truck (but it was a component system despite the front woofers being 6.75")

Other than that any suggestions for the car? I put mudflaps on it to protect the finish, got seat covers, and typically run injector/fuel system cleaner once a month to get any gunk out of the tank from the E10 around here. Other than that I hope it's like my Toyota; do the standard stuff and it will go forever.

Oh yeah, pictures (before I took delivery):

Very nice ride man! The new models are sweet for sure! There are quite a few things you can do with it too. The first thing most folks do is get a new intake be it a short ram or cold air. They'll get you a few ponies for pretty cheap. Other than that, you can get a bigger throttle body, headers, custom tunes... Tons of stuff out there! Just check the forums and you'll see a few threads on first upgrades I'm sure.

Also, the steeda intake won't make your car too loud at all. It should add a nice grisly note to your throttle. It's subtle, but sounds great! Nothing ricey lol. I've got the steeda intake on mine and love the way it sounds!

Enjoy your new ride and welcome to FF!

Good catch. I thought CFM had one but just double checked. Looks like the closest you can get are throttle body spacers.

Will these cause any issue with the warranty? (mainly the air intake) I only ask because I will probably be putting some miles on this car in the next few years, just in case something goes wrong. I really want another air intake. It has the same location as our family's Outlander (right in the grille), but has the pitfall of a crap load of piping.

Wow, some sweet cars in that thread. My first car was that aforementioned 1993 Corolla. After market for those consisted of A: eBay junk, B: JDM parts (which are impossibly expensive and hard to come by), or C: custom work (some things like my exhaust system were a great deal but other stuff... yikes). Nice to have some variety in parts options and not need to go right to swapping motors for more power.

I found a set of Plasticolor ones. They're leather (or so they say...), sideless, and include a head rest cover. The Ford logo on them looks nice, and they won't interfere with the airbags. I found mine on sale for $15 each on sale, but big box stores typically have them for $20 (unlike auto parts stores that want up to $40 a cover). Only issue is I have a lot of trouble getting the bottom part of the cover to stay in place.

I also put their Ford logo'd utility mats in the rear over the floor mats, while going with WeatherTech digital fit liners up front. I wish Weathertech made a air deflector for the windows though... I much prefer their system that fits in the channel between the window and seal than tape on ones.

My recommendation would be to check with the manufacturer of the intake, and with Ford. There are also several guys who work for Ford on the forum, so they may see this and be able to help you out with an answer. I don't think it would be a warranty issue, but I do know that warranty and insurance companies will look for ANY reason not to give you a payout. Cheap bastards. In this case, it would probably be good to err on the side of safety.

Or, you could just keep your stock intake and re-install it anytime you need to take it in for service.
