Race Exhaust

Quick question, I have a Race Exhaust with a CAI (no header) but is there a way to make the exhaust sound louder? If anyone is running an automatic focus with a race exhaust you'll find out it sounds good (nice tone) but it only gets loud over 5000rpms when you're regular driving around 1500-2000rpms its almost idling soft so is there anyway of making it louder? maybe removing something?

Removing the cat should make it louder, but it may make the car sound obnoxous and you may get unwanted attention from the local cops. go to a place that specializes in exhaust fabrication and they may be able to come up with something. but if you take the cat of and use a delete pipe just make sure to add an o2 sensor otherwise your check engine light may come on constantly.

What exactly is the cat? And why would that make my o2 sensor go wrong causing my engine light to turn on? Does that mean I'd have to get it tuned?

Your cat is in your exhaust manifold and its the catalatic convertor. To remove it you will have to get a header. Race exhaust is as loud as you will be able to make it without going straight pipe from the flex back.

A tune can turn off the second 02 sensor thus the ecu will not throw a error code for the extra exhaust gases that are now making their way through

on the second gens the cat is a manicat. it is built into the exhaust manifold and the only way to remove it is to go header. some cars(pzez) have a second cat down the exhaust before te frontal muffler and resonator.

Yeah I know getting a header and a tune for it would make it a lot louder but I was trying to see if there is a way I can do it now without having to buy anything else. Cause the header and tuner will run me both together about $700

Only way bro.

IMHO buy the header an install a small resonator to quiet it down a little.

I'll be selling my header here real soon and I'll sell it less than half price

yup, as for the resonator after my fswerks header and flex pipe i have a cat, magnaflow resonator and a 4 inch magnaflow in the rear position and its still stupid loud above 4k rpms. I had a 6inch round 30inch long magnaflow muffler in the straight position instead of the cat and resonator up until yesterday and it had a nice tame deep tone. Its too loud and ricey now. ill have to figure something out to quiet it a bit

get a high flo catayatic converter it is epa approved but is less restrictive allowing more sound which = louder

or drill a 1/8" hole in ur cat and take a wire hanger and gut it out.

Why are you selling yours and what are the risks of installing a used header?
