2009 Ford Focus SE question?

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum so hopefully I posted in the correct section. I'm thinking of buying a 2009 ford focus se 4 door with 65k miles for my mother in law. I heard the most reliable motor for this car is the dohc engine. I think it has it but I'm not sure. If anyone can post a pic of the dohc and sohc so I see the difference it would be nice. (note: I haven't seen the car in person.) secondly if you can tell me anything bad about this car I should be aware of. Thank you.

The 09' has a DOHC 2.0 Duratec motor. No real major problems with these cars. I haven't had a real problem just a few minor ones ( front sway bar end links, passenger side window motor, and paint wearing away from the rear lower quarter panel).

Aslong as you keep the car and the engine stock there should be no problem the car is a great and shouldnt have any problems as long as you keep it OEM. Since you said it's for your mother in law you shouldnt have a problem but a lot of us in here we modify the hell out of our cars and engines and if we do get any problems its of what we did luckily with this friendly and helpful community we can get help to fix almost anything. Bottom line you should be fine with that car with 65k miles aslong as you get it for the right price no prob.

P.S. I'm from Fort Lauderdale I just moved up to SC a couple months ago so welcome to FF and glad to see another 305 member!

Especially living in Miami, you don't have to worry about chassis rust.

As stated above it comes with 2.0 DOHC motor.

With my 10 I haven't had a single issue. (relating to mods, I did have few)

DOHC.... SOHC only applied for the 2000-2004 Focus. its been pure DOHC circa 2005... at least as the standard engine anyways.

the 2.0 is an unchanged carry over motor. its proven and the bugs have been shaken out. if your car is a PZEV partial zero emmision vehicle the air cleaner is permanent and non servicable there are no filters in it. most focus' are not and some dealers do not understand this and will refuse to change the air filter. (most autozones will not stock the filters too) its $12 and just 2 clips to get at.

the manual trans is the strongest option but if you are just a daily driver the auto will do fine. with the mileage stated it is a good idea to change the fluid out for both man and auto.- a clean trans is a happy trans

our cars are notorious for wearing through tires quickly. *sorry not much to do to avoid that. expect 30k out of a good set of tires give or take.

there were 2 suspensions available. both have an issue with wearing out the front roll stabilizer end links. these are easily changed in a driveway. mine wore out at 40k. serviced them once and havnt had an issue yet. im @100k now

you may find it hard to get all 13 gallons of gas into the tank. this agitates me so much. fuel econ that i have seen is a steady 36 hwy at 75mph. some have reported more and others less. depends on your habbits.

there is growing concern of the paint thinning out right infront of the rear wheels. this is due to road debris being kicked up by the fron tires and striking the rear fender flairs. a clear sticker seems to be the remedy. i live on gravel roads and have no rust to report for the amount of wear i have put on it.

there is little aftermarket for our gen. many members have resorted to customizing on their own and retrofitting other components. there are some products out there but plan on spending some $$$ for performance and body upgrades.

our cars are dependable and tuff. mine has been rebuilt twice from being hit by drunks. take care of it and it will reward you.
