Push to start

Has anyone installed a push to start on their second gen focus yet? And if you have which one did you do and how much did it cost you?

I started a thread for this a while back but there were no takers. No one wants to hack apart their wiring harness or mess with the steering lock or key cylinder. I had found a kit made of lexus parts but there are kits with toggle switches and simple buttons if you're on a budget....

I did it on mine in a more advanced manner. used an Ignited start button with blue light in it. lights up when the ignition is turned on and turns off when the button is pushed. No major mods are needed if all you want is a start button. just wire it to the starter wire. button I got was $30 i believe and then needed two relays for starter power and the light shutoff on it. on the second gen you can actually do it without any relays since they are all low current wires.

on mine I actually went a little farther and set it up so you don't have to turn the key to do it. put the key in the cylinder and the keysense picks up and activates the acc, ign, and start button. had to disable the steering wheel lock to make this work and that was a little tricky, but I love it.

Here's a vid of it.

Just wanted to say I really like your car, I've seen you driving around town.

Anyway, I was wondering if you could help me do this on mine and how much you would charge ? I still have the factory radio and was thinking of maybe getting a factory switch for the TCS or w/e the other one is for (idk I have an SE with no ABS) and running it to that switch, would that be possible ?

I run out of my powertrain warranty in 3k miles so I'm looking to start doing some more mods.

Yeah you have a really nice ride there Kipp good looks like your style if I would have bought a blue focus which was my second choice I would have pretty much modded it just like yours. Your interior looks sick btw, but thats one thing I'm scared to do is paint my dash but if I was gonna paint it, I'd paint the same as you but red since my theme is black and red.

It can always be changed if u don't like it. I use krylon fusion paint. Its designed to bond to plastic without primer. Just clean and paint. Can get it anywhere too.
