Junkyards?

I've never been to a junkyard, just wondering how you guys find Focus' there?

Do you just go to one and hope they have one worth anything? I really want to try and convert my tan interior to black and was hoping to find some black seats or something. I just have no clue how I would go about finding another Focus or compatible car to get parts from

^^ That.

But not all yards charge. The salvage yard I use let's you drive to the cars and doesn't charge you anything to get in. It has about 10 Foci in a row and they are all in varying state; some are almost striped down to a shell while other just got there and haven't been picked over much. Getting anything from a junk yard is a hit and miss but sometime you get a great deal when you find something you weren't even expecting. Just make sure you take your own tool because you'll most likely have to remove everything yourself.

Another way of checking their inventory is www.car-part.com.

Call ahead, you can also check to see if they have a website the may have a inventory there too. Make sure you have all the tools you need for the job. It can be a long walk to and from your car or truck. Most J/Y wont allow you to carry in a large tool box and I've never seen one that lets you drive up to the car but with all the debris in the yard you wouldn't want to anyways. I carry a tool bag which you can buy at wal-mart for $20. They usually will check the bag when you go in and before you leave. Check with there rules about jacks and jack stands the ones here won't allow you too carry jacks and stands inside, they have the cars up off the ground 4 feet anyways. Last but not least make sure you take plenty of cash most J/Y have very good deals and you probably see something else you want while you are there it may not be there when you go back.

Oh and one more thing. See if they have any special deals going on, the pick-n-pull here does half off days and it's well worth it but the yard is always packed so get there early.

Wow I hadn't even thought about the tools and stuff! I did think about bringing a good amount of cash though.

These are really good tips guys thanks.

Our cars are too new for most 'pick your own' junkyards. Wait about 3-4 more years.

Look for 'late model salvage' yards, they will have someone pull parts. And copartfinder.com is another good salvage site
