Question about tail lights

First, hello everybody, I'm new here...

I just got a 2008 black mk1.5 sedan which may sound like a mixed-bag for you guys... It's the last model that came out of the Argentina plant before switching to mk2. It's got mostly euro-spec stuff (like headlights and tail lights), but is left-handed.

My problem is, I bought my tail lights without knowing about the euro-spec/us-spec stuff. So, I now have some nice tail lights that accept 3 bulbs, but my circuit/socket plate has 4 bulbs and won't fit.

Does anyone know if I can connect a US-spec socket plate to the same connector?

And if so, does anyone know where/who could get me a pair of those? I can only find 4-bulb ones locally.

Here are the pics of the tail lights I bought:

The tail light itself does fit, but the harness with the bulbs do not, as it has one more bulb (fog light).

I'm seriously considering selling/trading these, as getting the separate sockets here will be quite difficult and I don't want to make a lousy retro-fit. Anyone interested?

Ok, could somebody with access to the parts catalogue tell me the part numbers for the required sockets?

I guess I'll take a stab at it and try to make my own wire loom.

Red face

My stock tail lights are exactly like these:

And it uses a plate (CARRIER ASSY - BULB) that contains all the sockets (4 bulbs):

I finally found some spare time and a willing salesman to pester at the dealer. Well, guess what, the sockets from the old hatch (98-2005) fit my new tail lights perfectly. The part numbers are:
  • XS41 13K370 CD (brakes - dipole socket)
  • XS41 13K370 AC (rear)
  • XS41 13K370 BC (turning signal)

from these, I only managed to get the rear ones, and were quite cheap (about $7). The others are out of stock. I did find another dealer willing to order these, but they were asking a hideously expensive price (about $35 each!). Is there anyone in the audience that could get me those sockets (2 of each) cheaper and delivered internationally?

If anyone knows where/how much to get the corresponding connectors, even if salvaged (I don't think they're sold separately) I'd be most thankful. I'll need these to make a new wire loom to connect to the original connector. I'd really hate to cut the original loom.

As for my foglights, I might get a pair of these:

and place them behind the little "cat eyes" on the sides. Would have to cut the taillgihts a bit to fit them though. What do you think?

Cool

Alright, answering to myself...

I finally got hold of the sockets and installed them today. Had to order them at the local dealer.

I didn't want to cut or splice the original wires. I also couldn't get hold of the six-pin connector that matches the one I have in my car. Ford only sells them as part of the original tail lights, and it's way, way expensive over here. I even tried a junkyard, and the guy REFUSED to let me cut the wiring...

So, I made my own "connectors" as well, with PCB mount pins, a few pieces of universal PCB, some cheap generic tin terminals, heat-shrink tubing and a lot of patience:

and the finished article, properly labeled and with heat-shrink:

And here is the pinout for the euro-style tail light connector:

1 - left blinker
2 - parking lights
3 - brake
4 - ground
5 - fog lights
6 - reverse

Two important things:
a) this pinout refers to looking at the female connector, with the locking tab on top:
1 2 3
4 5 6

b) the RIGHT side has all the pins REVERSED!

3 2 1
6 5 4

This detail alone had me scratching my head for quite a while until I decided to test all pins again...

The only downside is that I no longer have working fog-lights. I've never had to use them, so...

I'll post some pics of the installed tail lights later if anyone's interested.

Nice job on making your own harness , you have a lot more patience than I could ever have doing that tedious work .
