Does it have plastic inserts and a set screw on the side of the knob to secure it on the shifter ?

What spring? The one to push the reverse-lockout down? Why is that in the way?

You have to push the spring down then put the knob on.

You won't get the knob on all the way but enough to get the set screw secured.

Only other option if to remove the Reverse Lock-out mechanism, which uses the spring.

I removed the reverse lock then cut the shift down about 2.5 inchs, much much better shifter feel.
