Android Head Unit MK1 Focus

Hey everyone,

I had an android head unit in my old car and really missed it when I switched to my focus, but I couldn't find any information online regarding installing one (though some people have installed tablets, it's not really the same thing)

So anyway, they DO fit in the mk1 focus albeit with a little bit of hacking away at the plastic, behold:

Reversing camera works too

You need a double-din fascia (get one on ebay with an ISO harness) and a double-din android head unit.

There's already tutorials out there for replacing the stock unit with a double-din one so I won't cover that as it's all the same.

As mentioned, these head units are very large and just barely squeeze into the slot, this is the modification I had to make so it would fit:

There are 3 metal clips you need to install from your old fascia:

I used a dremel tool to cut away at the plastic.

As you've probably noticed my car is RHD, I'm not 100% sure how different the fitting will be on a LHD focus.

Here's the unit I used and here's the fascia (again, right-hand drive)

I believe the process is almost identical for LHD. Great write-up!

Interesting that they make an entire fascia, Euro install kits are cleaner but they give up a tiny bit storage space. We have to use the Metra 95-5806 install kit. Seems like the Metra kit would be more cost effective to manufacture though...

How do you like that head unit so far?

Ah the one with the brackets? I don't think they'd fit due to the width of the body of these android units, mine just wedges in place without any fixings at all:

There is a full fascia unit for LHD, if you look for the model number CT23FD32L on ebay I'm sure you'll find it.

As for the head unit, it works well although it can be a bit finicky at times.. still when you consider the functionality you're getting (handsfree, GPS, youtube, mp3 player, web browser etc..) for the price it's certainly worth it as long as you have the technical knowledge to fix it if something goes wrong.
