Question ST Shift Knob

What color are the shift pattern insert and reverse lockout ring supposed to be on the ST shift knob?
I love the red stitching and black leather but the insert and reverse ring look like cheap painted plastic (prolly because it is cheap painted plastic.)
I think that they are supposed to match the silver gauge bezel but they don't.

Anybody refinish theirs? I am looking for ideas to do mine.

They're a bright silver

You don't like it???

I ended up swapping the ST reverse lockout collar and a leather shift knob (used to come in the Cougars) that is smooth black leather with a silver shift pattern into my '05 to upgrade the interior
I also added SVT leather shift boot & e-brake boot and the SVT e-brake handle

Went with a mostly black, with a few silver accents kind of theme.....also got the SVT pedals

Mine are not bright silver. My gauge bezel is bright silver. But the shifter stuff is dull.
Maybe I should just get some bright silver paint.
Anybody paint theirs red?

I kinda wish it was the color of the gauge bezel.

It doesn't look too bad and doesn't really bother me a bit.

I thought about painting it black with red pattern/numbers.
Two ideas:
1. a. Spray it black.
b. Use an artist brush to paint the pattern/numbers.

2. a. Use a dremel to cut out the pattern/numbers.
b. Spray it black.
c. Mount a red LED underneath to shine through the cutouts.

I have not removed the insert yet, so I don't know if there is room for an LED underneath it.

That actually sounds like a pretty cool idea. You should try it. I'd like to see how it turns out.

Those are some interesting ideas to tweak with it.

I think if done right the LED could look good, if done wrong it could look like the ricey light-up APC ones...

Anybody ever take one of these apart? Since I have the red stitched one, I don't want to f it up. Is the shift pattern a snapped in piece?

Looks like it is going to be a pain to cut those numbers out.

The shift pattern is pressed into the rubber shift knob with 4 retainers.
The LED idea is not going to work, no room underneath and cutting the numbers out would elimanate 2 of the retainers.
