Expandable spray foam

Has anyone tried expandable spray foam to try and reduce road and engine noise in a ZX3? I compared the specs of the stuff you get a the home hardware stores and it is VERY similar to the spray foam that Ford uses in the rockers and shotguns of The old Crown Vic/Grand Marquis and Town Car. Probably the same as the new Mustang...

Has anyone ever used spray foam?

I entertained it, personally it sounds like a messy bad idea. There are some types of spray foam that hold moisture, and some that don't. Also when you spray it you have no control over it where it expands, then might cause some panels to bulge out when it's done. Ford of course knows how much to use for expansion rate, and they probably have a mold for it.

I got a hold of a Stinger Road Kill door and trunk kit for $20 at a going out of business sale. I used it to cover holes where sound would resonate because I didn't have enough to use liberally. It was enough for me to cover the holes behind the hatch door cover, rear seat side panels, front doors, and I had enough to line most of the trunk. I cut out two extra mats from a felt like material to put under the cargo liner.

I posted my dB in a MK3 thread and it was 69dB, the same as a new Focus. I also have a stock exhaust with a larger muffler in the tunnel. Another MK1 (I think another SVT) was in the 80dB range.

Yes I did, did a big soundproofing post/thread few years back on my 05 ZX3. Aside from dynomat under carpets etc, I sprayed great stuff into the inside of the body around the rear hatch, some free spaces under seat mounts inside body, I had entire interior out and stuck straw into dead spaces in body- not a ton but here and there.
I'm not sure yet but, I think over time as body twists the foam will break free from metal surface it first glues to- I'm hearing a little weird quiet squeaking - not sure yet if that's what it is, I hope not b/c there is no going back.....
Having done it - I'd have to say don't do it, there wasn't that much benefit to weigh out future issues. If you find my old post its full of great pics. Was able to remove entire interior and dynomat the whole car on a Sat/Sunday - that worked great helped quiet the road noise etc. Focus being on the cheaper side of course doesn't come with much sound deadening.
