Optional Cluster?

So after taking delivery of el car-o and getting it home, I thumb through all of the manuals and books that came with it. Upon seeing the clusters, I realized that to much to my chagrin I have no tachometer! Reading through the various posts with the word `tach' in them, from what I understand, in order to add an in-dash tachometer, I would have to purchase an entirely new cluster and hope that the mileage matches or is close-to-but-not-under my current mileage? And if it's not, then I either have to wait a hella long time or pay the dealership $300 to get them to change the tripometer total? It's definitely true that the mileage is not updated by the mileage stored in the car's internal components?

I am teh confused.

you could always get an aftermarket tach. i'd stay away from the dinnerplate sized ones though, i think you also need a tach driver too.

i don't think that you can do a cluster swap on a new focus yet. but the principal might just be the same. I've yet to try it. But since you just bought the car see if the dealership is willing to help out a smidge. The mileage is stored on the actual cluster on the older foci. But the newer ones i'm not too sure about.
