Yes it's definitely a do it yourself (DIY) job for sure. Takes about an hour, maybe slightly more taking your time. I'd go with the Steeda or Focus Central one if you decide on it. In the end you get a better feeling, sportier more fun to drive feeling. You don't really get any performance from it aside from the 'fun' plus it looks better, etc.

I'd recommend it for sure, plus it's a cheap mod.....

Yep, I'm not the best DIY 'Mechanic', but this job was easy...I studied up in the HOW-TO Forums before I recieved it so I knew exactly what to do, and what to look for when I started the job.

This site is so great in aiding the Do-It-Yourselfer and it saves so much money as well. I had the steps and pics practically memorized for the STS and when it came in, I had it installed in less than an hour...

Rock on

Yeah for sure, there are great HOW TO's out there, I think the list I put together has well over a hundred some HOW TO's now on it, the link is in my signature if you want to check it out before you actually make a purchase plus there are a TON of members on here that have done this mod and will gladly help you out.

wow at first I looked at both these posts and was like umm....then I read the subject matter. Just a way for S2 to bump himself closer to 10,000......damnit.

But anyway from what I have heard yeah they are worth the money and it isn't hard to install. Supposedly a super smooth upgrade for the cool 100 bucks.

I bought a cheap one off ebay. I ended up paying $11 shipped for it and I didn't have much trouble installing it the thing that took the longest was the reaining clip on the side of the driver's side shift tower and getting it back on. The higher up of the 2 balls on the shifter had a small white cap on it where it connects to the gold lever mechanism, and that just wouldnt snap in properly, so I drilled the hole in the center 1/16th of an inch larger and I had no trouble at all after that.

I would buy the ebay ones again given the opportunity.

Word of Advice: if you live somewhere very hot (IE Florida, Cali, TX) keep your OE shift knob, those metal ones get unbearably hot in the summer heat.
