Why no rear headrests?

Why doesn't Ford offer rear headrests on the Focus (besides the SVT models and the 2001 SE with the Sport package)? I look at Jettas with their three head rests across the back seat, and I am jealous. Maybe it is an American thing. If you look at most American vehicles, they lack rear headrests, but most Japanese and European makes have them. Consumer Reports is always ragging on cars without them, saying they don't offer proper whiplash protection. I just think it looks like something is missing.

For a future mode, WAY down the road, would someone with access to part numbers please post the part numbers for the rear seatbacks and headrests of the 2001 SE Sport here? Thanks in advance.

Because at Ford's heart they see the Focus as an econobox, and econoboxes don't need little luxuries like rear headrests I guess?!

They also put out an 01' ZX3 that I know of with them. IIRC you had to order side impact protection bags to get them.

Ford also seems to offer them as standard equipment on the SES trim designation (My '05 Focus has em) I dunno, part of me likes them for rear seat passengers, the other half says that they blot out so much rearward view as to be dangerous, but I can't be bothered trying to yank 'em out and put 'em back in as necessary

They don't need them back there, what for? People who sit back are not even doing anything. They can lay down and be like whatever. It's the driver and passenger who matter.
