In the US the seats are the same from all the MK1's with regards to them bolting right to the car with out issue. However, airbags seem to be an issue between years with systems/plugs changing. Usually this only pertains to airbags within the seat, so if you dont have airbags in your seat you should be ok.

You will have to swap over your seatbelt/plug and position sensor from your old seats to your new seats. Otherwise everything else should be fine. The only difference between hatch and sedan seats will be the 2door seats have the fold forward feature for access to the back seats.

this is based on US models, which afaik should apply to uk mk1 as well. I am not sure if mk2 seats will directly fit, we never received mk2 in the US like you guys did.

You would probably get better answers from www.ffoc.co.uk since most of those guys on there deal with your type of car on an everyday basis as compared to the North America models.

I can confirm rambleon84 is right on the money as far as the US 1st and 2nd gens are concerned. I just put leather front seats from a 2010 focus in my 2005 ZX3.

They will bolt in with no issue, but you need to remove and keep the wiring and seat belt plug from the original seats and then swap that into the new ones. You will see that the sensor to detect a passenger and turn the air bag on is the same, so no need to pull that out.

I got this done in an afternoon, and I LOVE the new seats (to anyone saying they arent that great, either you are used to amazing seats or you have not spend enough time in stock cloth 1st gen seats lol). The seats themselves are much more comfortable and relaxing, and even just the positioning of the seats give the car a bit of a new feel when driving. Already swapped in leather seats in the back, so now they all match and it looks great! Will post a picture later on.

Just thought I would post and confirm it can be done with basic hand tools and no mods, since I went looking for the same info and it was pretty hard to find. If you wanted the air bags that are built in to the 2010/mk2/2nd gen seats to work, that would require some mods and I did not feel comfortable or motivated enough to tackle that.

I think maybe I should have done the window tinting before I installed all this black leather though... (:

Their 2nd gen and ours are not similar therefore it is unlikely a UK 2nd gen set of seats will fit in a UK 1st gen.

Good to note that the fronts will swap. Rears will require extra work since the locking piece on the back of the seat will be in a different position.
