What is or is not accessable via the ECU/OBD2 port that you would want a gauge for?

title says it all. I am planing on doing some custom work on my center console area of the dash in the future. I am looking at using integrating a tablet and using a Bluetooth OBD2 adapter to read in some data. What is not available over OBD2 on the focus?

i.e. can I read out Oil temp, or Oil Pressure. Do I have fuel pressure, or voltage.

i.e. if I am using the "Torque" App what will not be reported that would be good to have as a gauge which would require a physical gauge and sender unit to be installed.

Thanks,

I have a Scangauge II custom built in my dash using a Euro din radio plate, and it does not read oil pressure or temp.

Water temp, volts, real time MPG, average MPG, Gallons Per Hour, cylinder head temp, fuel level %, MPH, RPM, TPS, IAT, and a few more that I cant remember. Also shows useless O2 voltages.

I think fuel pressure is on the gauge, but the ECU wont show it. Plus I have an SVT so I dont' know if it makes a difference.

I got it used so it was cheap, and it's nice to have a code scanner right in the dash. I'd like to see what your idea would look like when it's done!

I know that the Torque Lite version has fuel pressure, and it seems to work in my Focus. I just bought the Torque Pro version, but I haven't had a chance to play with it. It has a few more fuel pressure options, so it may come down to finding the correct gauge to add. I have the ELM 327 ODBII adapter, and Torque Pro now, but the car needs the transmission pulled out, and the clutch replaced, so I haven't been running it, and haven't really played with it, other than the initial setup.

Has nobody encountered issues with the first generation Focus having an OBD1 ECU? although it has and OBD2 port the ECU was only upgraded to OBD2 in the 2001 "Facelift" models. I have been looking into swapping the ECU for an OBD2 one or piggy backing the functions I want to add via a second ECU but there is hardly any information on the net.

Was this issue strictly an EU thing or was it the same in the US?

OBDII has been the standard and requirement on vehicles since 1996 in the US. I can't imagine that the ECU's would be different that much from US spec vs Europe Spec.

My scangauge II does not read fuel pressure or oil press/temp on my 2.0 Duratec. I have a 5spd but if I had an auto I'd want it to read trans temp but I'm not sure it would; it reads trans temp on my LSx swapped Monte Carlo though. Only gauge I'd add is oil pressure, computer reads plenty of others.

That would have to be a Euro difference, just as MAP based PCM's are used on many instead of MAF based systems.

Wow Im shocked that they would bother with OBD1 ecu's in Europe, so much later than the US OBD 1 switchover.

No oil pressure available via torque on my '07 D20... Thats really the only one I miss.

I have a base model so its pretty lacking in the gauge cluster... Did higher trim models have oil pressure gauges on the gauge cluster?
Oil pressure might be in there somewhere but require a custom defined pv.

Think most cars should at least have a pressure threshold sensor. To make sure that your above 10 or 15 psi at all times. My Zetec does not have a factory oil pressure gauge but has enough of a sensor to provide a oil light on the gauge if there is low oil pressure. But my aftermarket gauge has helped me a number of times now.

The one sensor I've wanted access to for a long time is the Yaw Sensor in the ABS/Advance Trac module.
I always thought it'd be nice to have for track use. Add the ability of a light or alarm for over G warning. That way you knew how much further you could push into a corner, etc.

It's something that should be accessible on the Duratec cars through the CAN Bus and probably is with professional scan tools. The Apps and such only read generic OBD PIDs, not Ford specific ones (of which there are 10x more).

But none of you will get Oil pressure, there is no sensor for it.

The only sensors the cars have are,

Zetec/Duratec:
Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor (CHT)
Mass Air Flow Sensor / Air Intake Temperature Sensor (MAF)
Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
Knock Sensor (KS)
Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor (HEGO)
Fuel Rail Delta Pressure Sensor
Delta Pressure Exhaust Gas Feedback Sensor
Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor

Optionally you may have:
Wheel Speed Sensors (cars with ABS)
Coolant Temperature Sensor (SVT specific)
Engine Oil Temperature Sensor (SVT specific)

I may be missing something.
But anything else, it's either not there or is "inferred". That is it's estimated based on input from other sensors, time and/or environment.
