Instrument Cluster

I have an '02 ZX3 that has the tach in the cluster. I was wandering if I get one without the tach, if the milage is saved in the cluster or the computer? I would like to get the tachless one and put an aftermarket tach in. If anyone has one they would like to swap let me know. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
JFrye

The mileage is stored in the cluster itself. You'll need one with the same mileage as yours. You can have them reprogrammed by a dealer, but its expensive.

Dibs! Our clusters are within 1,000 miles of each other. What are the chances of that?! He wants no tach, I want tach. Win-Win. Unless of course, the connector is different. Crossing my fingers!

Does anyone know if the connectors are different from the tach/non-tach versions? I dont have the cluster out right now so I dont have any pics of it. If someone knows they would save me the trouble of taking the dash apart in 20 degree weather.

JFrye, I was wondering too. After searching here, other forums, and google, I'm pretty confident the plugs will be the same. From all I can gather, it's just generation specific. IE: 00-04, 05-07, etc. We should be good to go. I PM'ed you my number, if you want to take it there...

edit- I know tach/non tach isn't a problem, what I was wondering about was whether they are engine specific. I haven't read anything about that being the case.

seeing as youre both 2002's, it should be a straight swap. 26 pins on each and the only worry would be if one of you had a 03-04 with a duratec (different wiring) go ahead!

Thanks, Buickboy. That must have been the difference I was thinking of for some reason. Duratec has what, 32 pins?

No worries, mines an SPI anyways. So I guess we are good to go!
