Progressive rev light (tach) Install

You may have seen LED strips in F1 or GT1/2/3 cars that light up as the revs climb, basically a tach for peripheral vision. Well I got a Shift-I which is a version of this and am having an issue.

It has a wire for tacho signal, ground, and power. It has power and it's grounded, it blinks when I start the car. But i think i used the wrong wire for the tacho signal. My gauge cluster has the stock tach so I figured ( and read i nthe directions) that I should just be able to tap into that wire. I looked up what wire this should be in my Haynes manual and it said two wires go from the PCM to the cluster. A white/blue one and a grey/ind (indigo?) one. When I took out the cluster there was no white/blue one at all, and the closest to a grey/indigo wire was a grey/pinkish one. So I used this one and it didn't register anything, even after fidgeting with the reading settings.

Does anyone know which wire would be right? Or if the tach in a 2000 zetec works by the crank position sensor? I know the shift-i works my reading spark signals and calculating revs from there so if it does work from the CPS I'll have to tap into a wire off of the coil pack right?

thanks.

Has no one ever put a tach with a shift light in a focus that had a factory tach? This one would install the same way...
