DIY: Matching Shift Knob

So I recently put the CFM short throw in my car and it really made me start to pay attention to how much I didn't like my shift knob. I looked online and eventually I'll break-down and throw down 60 or 70 for a nice MOMO piece but I wanted something to hold me over. This is what I came up with using the stock knob:

Attachment 17731

It was pretty simple to do overall:
First off my stock knob was already starting to peel and flake off so i decided i didn't really care what I did to it considering evntually it will be replaced. So i took a VERY sharp knife and VERY carefully scratched off the rest of that silvery crap (underneath is black).

After that I took a Paint Marker (the color of my car) and filled in the numbers and the outside. Not sure if the outside was a good idea but im gonna go over it a few times.

Just wondering what you guys thought... open to any and all comments. Just something cool and fun to do...

I think that the middle piece pops out actually. Then you can sand it down and spray it black. Then color in the numbers to clean it up. And I'm not too sure with how the outside ring is, but I think that it is better than stock.
