Cougar Cluster Swap!

Why? because I like the idea of having a 8k tach, my car is tachless stock, I like the way they look and because I can.

This isnt complete by any means but Ill be sure to update as I get closer.

First plan was to make a conversion harness between the stock 07 focus harness and the cougar cluster:

Found a brand new 0 mile cluster on ebay for $15 bucks so I thought id give it a shot:

Bought the wiring books for each car and after a lot of research I realised beyond the easy 32pin vs 2 26 pin difference that the 07 foci uses a can-bus system and cannot be easily replaced

Decided to hide the stock cluster in the dash and leave it connected so everything functions, then tap off of that harness and my FR tach driver to pull the signals to make the cougar cluster come to life.

I also picked up "the showpiece" - a 01-02 cluster which is much nicer looking than the early style and came in at 25 shipped. the plan is to swap over the surround, face and needles to the 0 mile cluster.

Last week I test fitted the cougar cluster and the bolt holes do line up with the focus dash, itll take a little trimming on the sides to make it fit (cougar cluster is a tad too wide). the contours of the clear plastic line up well though.

and this is where i am today: THE UNBLINKING EYE OF MADNESS! just about set to install, everything is labeled and all wires are extended.

questions, comments? hope to get some in car testing done tomorrow

Oh god thats going to be hot! Love the look! Cant wait to see the results. What is the second digital part for? What color do they light up? Be sure to keep us posted! With pics!

By the way, I would switch the black needles to the white cluster if it were me. I bet the contrast would look awesome!

didnt want to post anything until i was pretty far in lol

second dig is for clock/outside temp/ remaining miles. I might get those working eventually, as of right now they wont.

Pretty sure itll light up a similar shade of green =/ that can be fixed with a led swap later

anndddd im really loving the later style as a whole, the lighter face is a keeper though. thanks!

bumping this for today, started tapping into the focus harness and running wires to the cougar cluster! id say its 95% hooked up, 10% functional lol. turn signals and highbeam light work, just need to go back and check the connections on everything else (dont think the taps are touching metal on most of them)

thanks guys! hopefully ill have better news tomorrow morning after a little testing, but for now its too cold and dark... the bright side is it runs still
