Going Plaid Guys!!

Before I get into this, please don't judge lol. I am in need to replace my headliner as there is a tear in it from moving.

I saw a picture on FJ.com of a blue plaid interior (as pictured below) on the headliner. The blue matches his exterior color of his car. I am thinking of doing this to my car, but it will be red to match to color of my car.

Please let me know what you guys think and please don't be to cruel about it.

Also, does anyone have any experiance with changing out the headliner? Is it like a fiberglass or plastic panel that is removable? Also, how easy do you think this mod would be?

Thanks guys

It's not something I would want, but if done well it should look good. The problem you may have is keeping the lines straight. AFAIK the headliner is a pressed paper product. I've had the back of mine loose and that's what it looks/feels like. Go for it!

so does it like come down in one piece than? My thinking is that i can pull it all down and than just wrap the plaid fabric over the existing stuff...is my thinking correct?

i will look into it when i get off of work

yes it comes out in one piece, what ever fabric you get make sure it stretches easily because there are some deep corners you have to get to stick... get the 3m headliner adhesive spray, it looks like confetti coming out of the can, spray the head liner and fabric (in SMALL SECTIONS esp if you do it alone) let it get tacky then apply... i had my dads help so we did it in 1/4's but alone it will be tricky, there is a lot of laying it down and pulling it up... i also found a bondo spreader helped to work some of the smaller wrinkles out... work from the center out!
The center is basically flat and easy, then just start at your corners, i did the back and worked my way up the sides and left the front for last, make sure all your edges are clean, even though the trim covers 90% of it, the back and fronts you see when you open the hatch or look at the front of the car through the windshield... it takes time, patients and some trial and error, i did my micro suede one on a spare headliner....

good luck, and try to keep the lines straight, that will be the toughest thing with a design like that...

One more question though...what all is involved in removing the headliner? I guess are the pillars hard to remove?
