I've got my eye on a set of cougar gauges listed on eBay right now! I did the conversions for both the speedo and the tach and have it all saved on an Excel spreadsheet.

You guys are right, that other companies share parts, but I've never seen identical gauges before, so I was a little surprised. This definitely isn't the only reason American interiors stink. Materials, fit and finish have something to do with it. If you don't believe me, go sit in something German.

Sorry to threadjack. Your gauges definitely look great. Hopefully the signals the Focus sends to the cluster are the same as the Cougar and the readings are accurate.

Please let us know if the gauges receive the correct signals or if they are off slightly. You could probably check it easily using the "test mode" since it can provide you with rpm and mph.

If it plugs right in then its probably a safe bet to say the speedo and tach will work correctly. I know that a SVTF cluster will plug right into a non-SVT and will work correctly (or so I have read and asked about). I always wanted a tach that read up to 8k rpm. Keep us updated and let us know if it really off or right on. The test mode would be the easiest way to find out.

I'm doing this whether the gauges are right or not, lol... but it would be awesome if they received the correct signals though so i didn't have to get them calibrated

I don't see why they would'nt work. If the SVT cluster works and the speedo is way different 160mph compareed to 140 then I pretty sure the cougar cluster would work also.

I've heard that the svt cluster doesn't work when hooked up, it only lights up but none of the needles work. But I could be wrong.

^^you have it backwards it works it just does'nt light up. You need an aftermarket inverter to power the EL glow or reverse glow whatever you call lights in the SVT cluster.

Ok, so I just checked some other threads, it seems that you're right sleepyboy. It won't light up but the needles will work, they just won't read correctly since the tach and speedo and tach go higher on the SVT than on a standard zetec.

So if you are using the SVT cluster and the speed is reading 80 mph, you would really only be going about 70. I can live with that if I switch to the Cougar gauges since it wouldn't be that big of a difference with the speedo (gauges read 75, really going 70 mph).
