Removing 2002 ZX3 Stereo

Hey guys, I am new here, and also new to installing stereos. I just got a new stereo, and I need to remove the stock one. If anyone has a link that helps with this, or can try to explain it that would be great.

Thanks!

You need a special set of tools. WalMart BestBuy etc etc etc sell them. They're U shaped and slide into the holes. 2 holes on each side ... put tool in, pull each tool out from the radio some to get some hold on the retaining clips, and then just pull the radio out.

Also this will probably get moved to the ICE forum really quickly.

Here's a pic of the tools.

And here's a pic of them in use.

In Car Entertainment. To install a new HU in an 02 Focus, you will need the HU obviously. Then you need a dash trim kit. Most people like the Matra, or Metra, can't remember the name off hand, but you'll find reference to them all over the site. Then you will need the wiring harness adapter so you can crimp all the wires from the HU to it, and then it just plugs into the car's factory harness. You will also need an antenna adapter. These are all parts that WalMart or Circuit City or the like will carry. I'm 90% certain that CC carries the Metra/Matra kit. New HU installs into it, and then it snaps into the oversized opening our cars have. As long as you're comfortable following some basic wiring schematics and using a crimping tool you should be fine. If you're not overly comfortable with it, ask around your friends, someone has probably done it in their car ... offer some beers and they'll probably help out. :)

just get yourself a plug for a focus your year model. these can be purchased at walmart. and a dash kit for your car as well. ive never had luck finding a focus dash kit at wal mart but any audio store should carry them. then some butt connectors. just butt splice all the wires together to the plugins color coded and plug one end into your cars harness and the other into the stereo and wallaa your kickin.
