Painting a shift knob..or stupid

anybody know what kind of paint wont rub off or fade in a hurry for painting a shift knob? Acrylic? Or is this a stupid idea..

It doesnt matter, i was planning on buying a new one to paint, so i'm just looking into my options. I suppose a chrome type, but i'm not sure

Good idea, just make sure you put some sealant on it. Here's mine, and it looks just as good now as it did when i did it 7 months ago:

I painted mine last nov. and used it until April (maybe, I forget, it was around there though) when I got a new one. The paint never rubbed off, it looked as good as it did on day 1. Only thing was I painted just the depressed numbers/shift pattern...still worked great. I didn't use sealent and yes I did use arcylic paint.

It wasn't that hard, if you're gonna paint just the numbers/pattern, all you've got to do is have a wet paper towel with you. And if you get any outside the debossed area, grab the paper towel and rub lightly over it. It will clean off the outer area without losing whats in the depressed area. Super easy.
