Aftermarket Shift Knob Issues

There may be an existing post somewhere, but I figured Id start a new one.

I went to a local parts store and found a SICK shift knob that was chrome with blue LED lights on top that had different ways of lighting up. Eager to install it, I shot home, and threw it on.

When I did get it on, the reverse "lock-out" either wouldn't work (no reverse = not road worthy), or I could have about an inch of that damn spring showing, which made it worse looking than my original bunged up knob.

Does anybody know of shift knobs similar to this that work with the reverse lockout, or how to change this?

Looking to keep with my black/silver/chrome theme, and of course, if there are any with blue LED in it, thatd be badass!

Thanks!

Josh

Well, for one, you'd need to have TREMENDOUS strength to pull your car into reverse while moving forward. You'd also have to have the ability to completely ignore the awful grinding noise and feeling of your transmission while you tried to jam the synchro in between two sets of gears moving in opposite directions. That said, reverse lock-out is overrated.

Yeah, i totally agree, but I have two options that I face here.... Have an inch of spring showing (ugly), OR not have reverse.

Any suggestions? :(

disable the reverse lockout. It's super simple. I did it to get my shift knob to work.

I just changed out my shift knob with probably the same one you have. Chrome, with LEDS(all colors).

I ran into the reverse lock out thing also. So I just ripped out the reverse lockout. It's pretty easy.

1. Push in on your shift boot and lift up. Then pull the boot upwards out of the way.
2. There should be 2 little plastic rods on each side of the shift pole, that connect the reverse lockout with a alittle gray(or could be black) block.
Pull off both of the plastic rods.

3. After you pull off the plastic rods, that little block should be not connected, so lift it up alittle and rotate it, so it doesn't fall back in the place it was at.

4. After this, pull the reverse lockout pull thingy(the thing you gotta pull to put it in reverse) out. It just pulls out.

5. Replace the boot, and put on your new shift knob!

Might have to get a new boot, seeing as how when you put on your new knob, the boot wont be along enough to cover all of the shift pole.

Anyways, good luck.

ummm....

putting the car in reverse while its still moving forward is not that hard...

ill still be rolling about 5mph when i put the clutch in, and throw it in reverse and just ease into the clutch and allow the clutch to stop the car and start moving it into reverse... i do this because it makes backing into a spot much faster.

Yeah, at 5 it's no big deal. But at that speed it probably won't hurt anything too much either. Try doing it over 20mph and you'll see what I mean...
