Gauges with tach

I have read a few threads about swapping in a gauge cluster with a tach. It says it's plug and play but there are a few lights that stay on. Does anyone know why these lights stay on and can it be fixed by the dealership? I read about people putting electrical tape over the lights but I'm a stickler for things like that and I would much rather have it fixed. Also my other question, are all gauge clusters interchangeable between 00-07 or are they different?

cluster do matter. only 2000-04 are interchangeable and 05-07. So a 2000-04 wont work in mine or your 2007.

The cluster can be reset at the dealer to shut off the lights and correct the millage but be prepared to shell out $$$$$$$$

Thanks that was a quick response. That's what I love about the forums. That's good I was worried I'd have to rig something up, something I don't really wanna do with this car. I'm not really worried about the money, I have connections with a Ford dealership. Hopefully that will cut down on price. I guess the dealership will probably be the best place to get one but does anyone know of anywhere else and possibly how much I'd be lookin at?

Its a little more complicated than that.

All 2000-04 zetec/svt (and I believe spi too) clusters are interchangable, but they do not interchange with the 2003-04 duratec/PZEV models.

I've not heard of anyone testing it, but a 2003-04 duratec/PZEV cluster may work in the 2005-07 model cars as they both use the newer CAN bus instead of the SCP data bus that the zetec/svt used.

Also, the dealers cannot reset mileage. Period.

Dealers can reset the warning lights, but to reset the mileage they have to keep your car for a few days, physically remove the cluster, and ship it to the FORD warranty center who will then reset the mileage, and it costs quite a bit from what I've heard, making it typically more cost effective to just buy a new cluster, pre-programmed with your vehicles mileage, from mike @ hilbish.

Cheapest method is to find the part number for the cluster you want, then keep watching ebay. Easiest method is to call Mike @ Hilbish.

cheers,

-- michael
