Sedan weight reduction...

Well, I finally decided to start shaving some weight off my little focus. I started by removing the back seat, the seat brackets, and the right/middle seat belt lower anchor. I decided to hold off on the left lower anchor until I can remove the rear shelf so I can get the seat belts out. Here are some pictures:

Look at that mess of wires...

I decided to turn the sub box around, just need to extend the amp turn-on wire so I can route it behind the box.

Once I get done with finals and head home for summer, I plan to take the spare tire/jack out. I also plan to cut my sub box in half and get rid of one sub to reduce more weight. Then I'll see what else can be removed.

I'm guessing you're taking this car to the tracks right?

Awesome sounds pretty hardcore! How many Lbs/Oz do you think you just shaved off? Did you notices the weight savings after, like acceleration, braking, cornering?

"Shaving" ounces or pounds will not likely result in noticeable performance improvements, unless you are talking about precise measurements, e.g., drag strip or lap time measures. "Lopping" off pounds, like tossing out everything in the car that does not make it go or stop or stay in one piece (strip the interior bare, lose the audio, a/c, anything removable, all but the driver seat etc etc...taking all that out might produce improvements your butt dyno would recognize. This assumes you can drop weight by, say, more than a couple of hundred pounds or something in that neighborhood.

Correct, which is why I assumed he was gonna hit the tracks.... otherwise this is just hm.... less than useless.

Yeah...and those woofer magnets probably weigh more than the stuffing in all the seats combined! What's the priority here? The obvious question (which you asked of course)...

I was thinking the same thing but he did say hes going to cut it in half too! Maybe thats why He felt the need to lose the seat! Its like the whole ill take a extra large #1 with a diet! (the diet makes the extra large not seem so bad ya know?)hmmmmm LOL

Removing the seats and keeping the subs won't "reduce" weight at all...it'll just get you closer to what it was stock.

Actual weight reduction, that is, removing enough stuff to actually make a difference takes a lot of work and basically renders the car not daily driveable. Everything that doesn't add to the vehicle's performance goes. Tom had a 500 WHP road-race Focus and pretty much did everything he could do to it short of replacing bodypanels with composites and only got down to ~2400 - on a 2-door hatch.

whats more important here? weight, or your sound system. its one or the other if you're "shaving pounds". the bottom seat cushion cant weigh THAT much, at most 15 pounds. its the seat backs that weigh more. your spare/jack is heaver and easier to remove than the rear seats, and thats weight behind your rear wheels. your best bet for weight reduction is getting rid of a/c(your compressor weighs A LOT), strip carpet, remove radio, speakers, spare, dash, trunk carpet, and all but the driver's seat. oh , and how do you like the fr2's with the atx?? i've been itching to get those.
