question regarding primer for plastics

ok, i'm getting ready to do some painting on plastic parts. i got a bottle of adhesive promoter/primer for the job. on the bottle it says that after i've done my 2-3 light coats of primer, to apply color within 10 minutes. does this mean that once i've sprayed my last coat of primer, i start painting immediately(within 10 minutes) i thought i was suposed to let the primer completely dry before i begin paint. i know it sounds like a dumb question, i just want to make sure i'm understanding the bottle right. thanks for any help- J

the primer they are refering to is a primer sealer. Not a high build primer.Your supposed to let it tack between coats.this alows it to bond the coats together.

oh i know you let it tack between coats. i was confused as to weather i let the primer dry completely before i begin painting or do i need to paint right after i primer. i don't have the paint on me and i was going to go ahead and primer today. if i need to wait and do it all together in one day i will. that's why i ask.

You need to do it all at the same time.So dont spray the primer or you will have to scuff it with paper and respray it.You can if you want to but you will be doing more work for the same outcome.

I wouldn't use krylon plastic paint on a car....you want something that will last and stand up against everyday driving, snow, rain, wind, dust, etc....just like what jmotank is already doing.

My advice to you jmotank is TAKE YOUR TIME! Do not rush it. The end result will be much better.

well, i actually ended up using the krylon fusion for plast. i got the mirrors done and they came out really good. it's suposed to be a very very durable paint. i looked into it before using it. suposed to be fully chip resistant within 7 days of painting. there are plenty of pics in my thread in the showroom title "new stuff for the focus and little projects" or something similar. i'll be doing alot of painting in the upcoming weeks and should have the mirrors on this weekend. a few of the items i will be going thru with the whole sanbding primering process because of the nature of the items, but the mirrors turned out pretty good for a home $5 job. i was kinda impressed with myself when i was done. LOL
